A few nights ago my friend had a monster +50 roll, one of the longest I've witnessed at the tables since I started playing a few years ago.

I made a pretty decent profit since I bet across from the very beginning, but I now realize that I could've made so much more if I had pressed my bets on the box numbers that he was hitting the most.

For those who like to press, how aggressive are you? I'm thinking that going up a unit on a box number every 2-3 hits is reasonable.

I don't always play place bets, but when I do, I'll usually start by pressing about every other hit. If the roll gets going, presses will be more often and for larger amounts than just 1 unit.

AFTER you made your $ back, press 50% EVERY time the # hits.

ie:
you place $12 each on the 6 + 8.
so you have $24 on the table.

after you win back $24, press to $18, then 24 (because they wont let you press to 27) then 36, etc

This is how a real man plays craps (change unit sizes accordingly).

Bet $54 or $52 across ($10 each number, $12 on 6/8). Press accordingly:

6 or 8 press:

1) Drop $4 and power press to $30 ($12 + $14 + $4 = $30).
2) Drop $1 and power press to $66.
3) Drop $7 and power press to $150.
4) Collect
5) Drop $5 and power press to $330.
6) Press to $600 ($330 + $385 = $715...so you collect $115)
7) Collect $700
8) Press to $900 or $1050

5 or 9 press:

1) Drop $1 and power press to $25 ($10 + $14 + $1 = $25)
2) Full press to $60
3) Drop $6 and power press to $150.
4) Collect $210
5) Press to $350 [collect $10].
6) Press to $500 [collect $340].
7) Press to $750
8) Press to $1000 or $1250

---OR----

1) Power press to $25
2) Press to $50 (collect $10)
3) Drop $5 power press to $125
4) Full press to $300
5) Collect $420
6) Press to $700
7) Press to $1000 (collect $680 [ i think?]).
8) Press to $1250 or $1500.

4 or 10 pressing individually:

1) Buy for $25 [collect $3 or $4]
2) Press to $50
3) Press to $150
4) Press to $200 or $250
5) Press to $500
6) Press to $1,000

----- OR -----

Pressing each (ie: have $25 on both, when it hits, press both to $50..then $100) -

1) Buy for $25 each
2) $50 each
3) $100 each
4) collect
5) $200 each
6) $300 each [or $400 each]
7) $500 each
8) collect

If you got some REAL BALLS, you do the same thing as above, except you also play come bets. Instead of doing "down with odds" (taking place bet down and using place bet + winnings for odds).....do the normal press on your place bets, and drop however much you want (3-4-5x) for odds on your come bet. In other words, your bets will be "double parked" [come bet with odds + place bet on same number].

Of course, you don't need to go all the way to #8 with so few collections. Perhaps stop at #4 or so. But really, IMO, you should press/power press at least 2 times (preferably 3 times) before you do a "full collect / same bet".

In the end, it really doesn't matter. Craps is -EV. Play however you like. But I sure as hell am not going to be playing craps for any longer than an hour (unless the roll exceeds an hour).

If I was playing on a $10 table, I would press my place bets like this:
Buy 4/10 --- $25 , $50 , $100 , $200 , $400 or if in the mood - $25 , $75 , $150 , $300
5/9 - $10 , $25 , $50 , $75 , $100 , $150 , $200
6/8 - $12 , $18 , $30 , $60 , $90 , $120 , $180 , $240

Basically, I would press almost the full amount the first time or 2, then start pressing back about 1/2 of the winnings. This still grows your rail, but gives you the potential for a HUGE payday on a monster roll like your friend had. This pretty much guarantees that when the 7 out comes, you are going to have a large amount of money on the felt. BUT, you will also have a huge amount in your rail. I always looked at it this way; If the shooter rolls 3 more box numbers, they have covered all of the bets that were on the table (had I chosen to take them down). Therefore, by leaving the bets up I have continued to make money that I would not have made had I taken it down.

I've had a couple of long rolls, one 45 min and the other 70 min, and both rolls were nice paydays. One got me around $6,500 and the other was about $4,500. The downside is on shorter rolls, you end up breaking about even, when you could have booked a $100 profit. It all depends on whether you want to grind for more small wins, or swing for a home run.

Being aggressive worked well for me for a few years, but I have only had a couple of decent wins in the past couple of years, and the rest of the sessions have been bust outs.

Pass line, 2 come bets, start odds at $30, after hit go to $50, $75/80, $100, $125/130, $150, $200, $250, $300, $400, $500, $600, $750, $1000, $1,200, $1500. Minimum flat to achieve above odds. Fill in 6&8 if uncovered at approximate odds level I'm at. Biggest hit I had, my passline was at $15/$1,200 odds(at a 100x odds table).

powerpressing vs 50% press:

it also depends on your mindset.
do you get more enjoyment from constant profit or a once in a while big payday?

and bankroll:
you need a much bigger bankroll to survive till the 6 or 8 to hits 4 times in a roll.

The hardest thing is that you don't know the roll is a monster until it is over. More often than not, the shooter craps out after I press... hehe (at least that's how I always remember it.)

I press like crazy but the vast majority of the time the roll is over before I get a chance to start collecting. I have turned $54 into several thousand dollars on monster rolls but those rolls are few and far between!

That is wonderful advice, with $32.04 projected loss per hour times 10 hours per week of play times
52 weeks a year, hell that is only a projected loss of $16,660 per year.

Now if we only add in a come bet, see we can really lose some money.

If you play for an hour or play for a day, poor betting patterns will eat you alive.

We all want to make more on a good roll, but bet in a way that captures every good
roll you happen to be on means you will lose big time, much more in the long run
than you will win on any good roll.

If you press get your money off first with a little profit before any press and then if you want
to pretend you have some "real balls" press aggressively on the one or two numbers that
are hitting the most. That way when the roll ends you don't have half your winnings on
numbers that did not hit as much.

They did not built these beautiful casino's if all it took was balls to bet against them.

On three occasions I’ve gotten either the 6 or 8 to table max with the following progressive. Once the table max hit. Damn they were fun rolls! (Only one of them mine.)

$120
$180
$240
$300
$600
$1,200
$1,800
$3,000
$6,000

ETA: one of the most unlikely things that I’ve done while playing craps. I was at a casino years ago that had a repeater features bet. You had to hit the six six times before a seven (including come outs) to hit. Same for 8s. On my roll, I hit 5 sixes (not all in a row, but all with no seven). Then a come out seven (so repeater bet lost). Then 5 sixes. Then I sevened out.

It was still a money making and long roll but just really funny that I came so close twice to the repeater. I wasn’t pressing Place bets that day, unfortunately.

I don't like any of the last 3 systems I posted above because I keep having to drop money onto the table to make a larger bet. I'm gonna focus on a system where I can rack change, not drop change. It will have lower maximums, but still require a 4th hit to win back 10X my original bet on a number. I can bet one number instead of two if I want.

Unreal men are more likely to think than to publicly display their manliness, real or imagined. Thought is useful in both business and gambling.

Whether earning or winning your fortune, certain specific steps follow in sequence. They are:
Minimize losses
Win small and lock it up.
Win significantly and lock it up.
Win large and lock it up.
Win whatever the dice gods permit and stash some cheques during the long roll madness.

After careful thought, apply this sequence to your own progressively larger Flat bets, Odds bets, and Place bets.

During long shooter Hands, especially during each long Point, keep in mind that the next Big Red becomes likely 3.8 rolls into the future. After each roll, that life expectancy is renewed. Plan your Place bets accordingly.

I like that advice PWCRABB I just wonder if i'll actually use it..My play really depends on( and maybe it shouldn;t) my bankroll at any specific time..So there are times I'm involved in a hot roll and I don;t press agressively enough to win most of my previous losses back..In fact this is the weakest part of my game..I ALWAYS realize this after the hot roll is done.. But I still love the game and all it's challenges..Does any one here feel the same???
