I periodically like to revisit this topic to see if anything has changed recently or if there's a new place that I'm missing out on. All things being equal (similar class casinos), I will certainly play at the place that takes the best care of me. I typically play in Vegas or Tahoe, but have found myself spending much more time in Tahoe recently. I don't find I get the best bang for my buck on the strip, and Tahoe has stepped up their game recently.
In Vegas, I typically stay at the Venetian/Palazzo or the Wynn. I tend to like that side of the strip and find that anything beyond CityCenter (i.e. Mandalay, NY NY), the other side of the Wynn (Circus Circus, Strastophere), and downtown increases the "character" factor 3-5x. I simply like a relaxing game of craps without all the hoopla and find I can get that in the section I'm referring too. As for playing solo (I'm not a large enough player to reserve my own table), I can almost always get that at the Bellagio at off hours. With this said, I occasionally get mail offers for Venetian/Palazzo for free comp rooms on the weekend. I can occasionally get a room comp at The Wynn, otherwise it is typically casino rate and full comp if I play to their level. I get discounted rates at Harrah's and MGM properties. Of all these properties, the worst hands down would be the CET properties (they are so tight they squeak...again, only talking about 100% craps play). It seems like the Venetian/Palazzo has a slightly different way of rating craps players. The others will typically not give you credit for "odds" wagers. Since my typically play is one pass, two come, and a place on "6" and "8", I really only get credit for about 40% of the money on the table.
Of course, a couple of the reasons I used to like going to Vegas over Tahoe, was simply that the rooms were substantially nicer, and the restaurants and the shows were superior (even if the comps weren't as generous). But recently Tahoe has stepped up their game. The place I normally go to , Mont Bleu, just finished a complete remodel (rooms are quite nice now), and at the end of January, the Hard Rock Casino opened (bought out Horizon). The Hard Rock did a nice job on the casino, and the rooms are nice (but quite small). But Mont Bleu is definitely my "go to" place. I always get free rooms, free food, a monthly massage, and free shows (and even though it's pretty "retro", those are the groups I grew up with...I'll be seeing Boz Scaggs tonight). Of course, the one thing they do that is unheard of is give full credit for every dollar on the craps table (including "odds" wagers). I typically average between $200-250 at their place and always have more credit than I can possibly use. Harrah's and Harvey are now officially 3rd tier in Tahoe (and they clearly are not going to have the funds to do remodeling any time soon). At my level of play at Harrah's, I'd typically get $4-$5 of credit after a 2 hour session. Whereas at Mont Bleu, it's typically about $35.
So how about you guys? Any diamonds in the rough that you like?
