My brother gave me his old WinXP machine which included the install software for WinCraps Pro along with the activation name and code, but I can't figure out where to put it. Anyone know the answer? Thanks.

You can't rip off our member Steen like that. Buy it yourself, it's not expensive, and instructions come with it.

Lots of people know the answer, because they paid for the software. Hopefully none of them will help you, except to "tell you where to put it". You do understand that this forum has dozens of members who are games and software designers, right? Including the guy who wrote WinCraps Pro?

MODerately harsh, BBB. First accusations of welching, and now the endorsement of forcible penetration directed at those whom you wrongfully convict as software pirates. If his brother bought and paid for the software, and the title isn't being freely disseminated, why should that matter? By your logic, if I were to buy a used laptop and MS Office was purchased and installed by the seller, and not equipped by the manufacturer, should I purchase the software or otherwise purchase another license from Microsoft? As long as the license isn't passed around to several users I don't see the problem. One license, one device, one user.

edit
I have (2) purchased licenses for WinCraps-one for each device. Steen, I'd pay more for it in fact-I like it that much!

It's less than $20. If you like it, it's probably reasonable to buy it for yourself.

I do see this point. If the license was paid for once, then he has every right to have it activated. However, he is not clear on whether it was activated via a legit purchase.

Well he said his bro gave him his old PC with the name and activation code. Once activated it should not require reactivation, unless of course it was formatted.

what is this activation code that is talked about?
I never used one of those

I just now placed Pro and Classic (newest versions) on an old XP laptop and they both work perfectly fine.
Even my auto-bet files work also.

I did find this

WC Pro Help file
Registered copies:

May be used for an unlimited period of time.
Have unrestricted use of the Hyper-Drive.
Have unrestricted use of the Sessions Log.
Are able to save Probability Files.
Are entitled to discounts on upgrades.

Registering will provide you with a registration number to convert your shareware version of WinCraps
into a registered version.

Sally
no activation required

added on 9/4
here is what one is greeted with starting WinCraps Pro after a download and install

IMO, Steen could have made entering the name and number a bit more challenging
but I would guess has a good reason for the current method
OP probably has figured it out by now

Max,

I didn't accuse you of anything; you admitted you welched. As to the software, once it's legitimately activated, which I would think his brother did, it shouldn't need to be done again. The first post did not read to me like he had a legitimate install (nor did it to at least one other person), so I think it's good that someone provided Steen's email, which I did not have. I'm sure Steen will help him with it, one way or the other.

Babs, I'd like to thank you for being a moderator. It doesn't make you popular, not unlike any other type of monitor, but it's necessary none the less. Ok, so you couldn't be wronger about me either being, or admitting to being, a welcher. Proof or 'pologize would be the most tactful course of action. Speaking of tact; your woulda, shoulda, coulda approach was beyond reproach. Based on the OP's question you reached a harsh conclusion. I'll cite only one probable explanation because it was the issue that I encountered; perhaps his brother had difficulty with the installation of the software subsequent to purchase. I'm sure Steen and others appreciated the way you swiftly carried the OP to the gallows, but rushing to judgment is how I interpreted your comments, period.

Max,

I'm not running for Homecoming Queen, but you're welcome for the moderator service, though the tone of the post puts your sincerity in some doubt. Axel detailed the proof; you made a bet, then backed out because (you said) you hadn't nailed down your shooter's agreement to participate. Just like several people knew you would from post #1. Not the best entry to the forum I've seen. I asked Mike, and reversed your first suspension, not because you didn't break forum rules (you did), but to allow you a little latitude both as a new person and for "bet bantering". You might note that Face, who was not aware of the circumstances, suspended you a few days later for the same insulting posts I based my initial decision on.

You and I got off on the wrong foot and are continuing. I'm really tired of your posts alternating between insulting and condescending, though you've shown some signs the last week or so of being worth knowing (not in this case, and not in anything you've said to me). It's also pretty ironic that you got so nasty to Axel for "butting in" on your bet, and here you are "butting in" and taking me to task about something that doesn't involve you. So how about we call it a Mulligan and start over? We can both be worthwhile and valuable members on here.

As far as the OP, I still think the best course of action is for him to email Steen, since that's available to him. If it turns out I owe him an apology, he'll get one. Jury's still out on whether he was taking a shot or just having a tech issue.

I'm sorry that my tone caused you to question my sincerity. Although you may not wish to be crowned, you certainly impress me as one that seeks the approval of tenured forum members. The way that you ostensibly ignore punishable remarks, openly made by some members, has led me to such a conclusion. The incessant pestering that is meted out by one particular forum member is insane. The fact that it is perceived as endearing only amplifies the insanity. So, if you're tired of my insults and condescension, I can only imagine how "the resident smart ass" fatigues your soul. I do not wish to pick a fight with you, but rather defend myself and question you as a moderator. WoV is my first (and only) forum membership and you were the first moderator that I had to deal with...neither of us left our best impressions.

Max,

I didn't accuse you of anything; you admitted you welched.

I take issue with this because it is false. You accused me of admitting to a serious allegation and when I asked you to provide proof you deferred to Axel-seemingly, a knee jerk reaction. I was asking for proof, not a third party recollection. I clearly outlined what happened from my perspective. There were components of the bet that were not yet satisfied and SOOPOO would surely agree. In fact, shortly after my explanation, SOOPOO stated that he did not consider himself the victim of welching. Perhaps you're confused about what welching means, I don't know, but I do know that at no point in time did I admit to welching; consequently, you are wrong.

Axel/rainman
Tell you what. We disagree. So I'm going to forward this up to the Wizard and let him overrule me if, in bet-setting parlay, this is normal "rudeness" parameters, like trash-talking, and somehow acceptable. It'll be a learning experience for me if it is.

Quote: beachbumbabs

Ok. Mike tells me this is a "guy thing" and part of negotiating a bet like this. So Max is un-suspended with my apologies.

I could be wrong but it appears to me that you are taking credit for having my suspension reversed. Admittedly, you were out of your element and unfamiliar with such bantering. Axel compelled you to "fix it" because he felt that the suspension was undeserved and more accurately was motivated to see the bet through fruition. You apologized and I was equally gracious. There was absolutely no bad blood, ill will nor a bad attitude directed at you.

Quote:

"costed"? Umm? Anyway fellas, I'm back so where were we? No worries BBB, you simply made a judment call. I'm good with it and respect how you handled it after the fact.

I was suspended weeks later-not days. I concede to small potatoes, but I gotta discredit your efforts of trying to portray me as a troublemaker because it's simply untrue.

Your assessment of me is as wrong as your use of the word "ironic". I'm not "butting in", I'm simply pointing out that your evident bias as a moderator; an arbiter if you will, shows poor form. The OP might be a troll or possibly the worst software pirate the world has ever witnessed. He might even be worse than anything we could imagine, but solely based on his post it's all assumption. He was not afforded the benefit of the doubt, but rather attacked. I empathized because I too felt attacked as new member. Regretfully, Axel and I shared many harsh words and his issue with me was proof, or a lack thereof. "If there's no proof then it didn't happen". That is a comment I read often on this site. Well, fundamental proof was emailed to Axel and I haven't heard much from him in that regard since. He claimed that my emailed proof was inadvertently trashed, twice, and the drama stopped. I sense that if I didn't send him the proof he desired I would have gotten an earful eyeful. Tell 'em what'ya saw Ax and give me a tiny bit of vindication, por favor! Axel and I just might end up being cool with each other and I'll be the first to welcome it. Being mistaken is one thing but being an outright liar is something else altogether. I sent him proof because I loathe outright liars. So, to immediately assume that all newbs are liars is clearly something I'm going to need work on. As far as the OP getting an apology from you is concerned, who knows and who cares. I haven't been here long enough to know what kind of trash blows through this forum and wreaks havoc on the good folks of WoVania. Maybe he stole the cigars and pushed the store clerk; maybe he deserved to get shot based on prior incidences. Maybe his query was genuine and he"ll never come back. I like it here and I said my piece.

Yes, sometimes he does. He likes to clown and dance on the edge, and sometimes he falls over it. And then he gets suspended.

This is how you don't pick a fight? I'll keep that in mind as you continue on.

It's likely we will continue to disagree about whether what you did, semantically speaking, was welching, but "welching" is a more polite word than others I could use, so I used it.

Quote:

I am, in fact 100% responsible for having your suspension reversed. The part you're missing is what constitutes an offense on this board.

1. I received complaints (plural) about your insults in PM.
2. I read through the thread, carefully, and had to agree you had made several personal insults.
3. I suspended you.
4. Axel and later, SOOPOO said "wait, we weren't upset". (They were not offended; others were.)
5. I offered, unprompted but based on their reaction, to ask Mike whether this was tolerable. This is me, trying to find a way NOT to suspend you, not you deserving to be un-suspended, without stretching his rules too far. (edited for a typo)
6. His advice was that the suspension was NOT unwarranted, but that this was typical bet banter. He was unwilling to reverse me as I was correct.
7. I decided to reverse my decision in order to allow you to complete the transaction in this particular case (and not provide you an excuse to back down if you were trying to get suspended; you were new and we've seen a lot of big talkers come and go; getting suspended has been others' refuge).

Quote:

Admittedly, you were out of your element and unfamiliar with such bantering.

I was entirely within "my element" as a moderator; lots of bets get placed on this site without the rudeness you displayed. I suggest you read back other bet threads and see how it can be done. The question was whether Mike wanted his rules stretched to allow you to do this "your" way, since the other parties to the bet were not aggrieved.

Quote:

Axel compelled you to "fix it" because he felt that the suspension was undeserved and more accurately was motivated to see the bet through fruition. You apologized and I was equally gracious. There was absolutely no bad blood, ill will nor a bad attitude directed at you.

It was not up to Axel. He knew the suspension was deserved; he was asking for special dispensation. SOOPOO knew the same thing.

Quote:

I was suspended weeks later-not days. I concede to small potatoes, but I gotta discredit your efforts of trying to portray me as a troublemaker because it's simply untrue.

I'm not portraying you as a troublemaker. I'm trying to save you a lot of frustration and future suspensions because I can't see that you're understanding the distinctions I'm trying to make. I WAS, in fact, inconsistent in moderation in this case; I should have let your suspension stand, because you earned it. But I erred on the side of letting the 3 of you have your fun, and because Axel and SOOPOO, both friends of mine, begged me; now, here you are again, arguing about it. Something about Road to Hell and good intentions. Face had been off the forum for a time with a concussion and other matters (public knowledge); he was catching up and popped you right when he saw it (his perspective), just like I did, but he didn't give you any further thought. Knew it when he saw it, just like I did. I mentioned him to try and help you understand that what you said was not acceptable, not just to me, but in how this forum is moderated. I won't make that mistake (of latitude) again with you.

This is a lot of rehash and garble. You've said your piece, and I've given you the best answers I can for tonight as to what does directly concern you and me. I think it's time for any further argument from either of us to go to PM and not continue it publicly. Thank you.

Do the words , " Oh, no. I am not the troublemaker. It's everybody I interact with, but not me. Perish the thought ", ring a bell with anybody ?

Tears of a Clown was just playing on SirusXM 60's. Not ironic, but quite funny.

There is no conflict on this board without you making it just a little harder to get through, is there, Buzz? Do give it a rest, please.

First off I and others only begged for a non suspension because of greed. We all knew, value was possible if there was a bet.

I do think you welshed. "WE HAVE A DEAL", you said. But backed out. SeePoo can say whatever he wants, that does not make him right. He forgave you, but that's his prerogative.

Yes Max sent me a 2 pics of a red craps layout and what looks like part of a rail. the pic had like 3k in Benjamin's spread out with a odd $20 on top and my name.

I can't verify anything other then You sent a pic, I can't tell a Photoshop pic from real. I assume it's real and apologize for thinking you were a complete troll. I still doubt this girl can DI better than a random roller. I say be careful you're not being coned.

You need the event to satisfy the bet don't you in order for something to be welshed. The casino only pays when the event is resolved. Your credibility for typos being accidental is gone now too which is worse than you think.

This is a lot of rehash and garble. You've said your piece, and I've given you the best answers I can for tonight as to what does directly concern you and me. I think it's time for any further argument from either of us to go to PM and not continue it publicly. Thank you.

I will admit the most common use of the word is meant as, not paying after a bet however, it also means, to break one's word. Fail to honor.

It was not a dig on SP whatsoever.
