Today marks two notable events in History. Katrina wrecked the South Mississippi casinos 9 years ago. From my perspective craps has come back strong with two new venues, Hard Rock and Silver Slipper replacing Casino Magic and President. Even though Margaritaville is a bust there should be one or two more coming.

The other event? Happy Michael Jackson Birthday!

I find Biloxi depressing. Visited it a couple years ago. All the casinos rebuilt but thats it. A vibrant beach front now desolate except for the Casinos.

I wonder where Michael will be celebrating.
There is a whole group of Michael Jackson fans that are convinced he faked his death and the whole family is in on it :-)
When somebody doesn't believe me, I could care less. Some get totally bent out of shape when not believed. Weird. I believe very little on all forums

Despite all the attention New Orleans got from Katrina, it was the MS Gulf Coast where the destruction was the most violent.

I really miss Treasure Bay. I loved the pirate ship! The 'new' TB is a shell of what it was. I also miss the Grand's poker room -- Lots of action, and not just free drinks, but free munchies for the players as well.

I will not miss the Pile of Debris Isle of Capri. Back in the 90's, they were super-stingy with their drink comps. The beers were served in 8 oz cans! I ordered a shot, and it was literally barely enough to coat the bottom of the glass. I never forgave them for that!

As for post-Katrina craps, I liked the IP, but I haven't been back to it since Boyd took it over. The Palace is OK for craps, plus it is smoke-free, which Mrs. Joeman appreciates.

I think what I miss most, though, was that Katrina caused Amtrak to discontinue its Sunset Limited service to Florida. You could jump on the train after work on Friday and be in Biloxi first thing Saturday morning. Sure beat the heck out of the drive down I-10.

Try one more time! In the last 2 years or so the Palace remodeled and went smoke free. Hard Rock built a new tower. Pile of Debris is now a brand new Golden Nugget. Grand also remodeled and is now Harrah's Gulf Coast. Uncle Sam has helped in many pork barrel ways and Jeff Davis old digs is back and flying the Stars and Bars!
