I was surprised to Learn that a PUT Bet can be a BETTER bet than a PLACE Bet. I was listening to the latest YOU CAN BET ON THAT podcast. They were discussing craps bets. They explained how a Put bet can played to pay of substantially better than a Place bet.

This is with the same sized wager!!

I do not want to try to explain it as I may mess it up. You can listen on iTunes or the link below.

PLEASE let me know what you think of the strategy.

Where have you been since a year ago? Much more interesting things have been discussed here.

On the other hand, I can imagine you tuned in to one thread and tried to decipher what the heck people were talking about when they posed big complicated bet combinations and derived various edges from them [some of them claiming to favor the player] threw up your hands and left. Or perhaps it was the thread where it was revealed that someone found a lovely damsel who could influence dice to the 5% player advantage level and captured her forever with his superb sexual equipment!

As for your question, ain't hard to beat a place bet, most of them are suicide in action IMO

Don't know about no five percent damsel but sounds fun.

Put bets are often unknown to dealers. So there is no advantage to a bet you can't make.

I'm in wiseguy mode, sorry, but if you've tuned into recent Craps threads you either got a chuckle or got angry if you were targeted [which is why a wiseguy never prospers!]

>I thought you guys would be interested in the Put bet strategy

it's kind of old hat. It favors the house to make put bets, the only thing to like about them is that you get to pick your number. It can be pretty cheap on an HE basis if you are playing something like 10x odds.

The thing is, all this kind of thinking requires increasing your action at higher cost. Often the motivation is to get all the numbers covered. To think that is important is a canard IMO.

I suggest just making more come bets if you want more action. Accept the random results of "which number you get". At that point of the bet, you're just going to have to get lucky anyway.

I think Odiousgambit's sarcasm / wise guy attitude comes from the fact that this was discussed just last week, in this thread:

https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/craps/19253-adding-an-additional-bet-to-my-passline-after-the-point-is-established/

Here's a short version:

Yeah, put bets, with full odds, can be better than place bets. But only if you take max odds, the max odds are at least 10x, and the table minimum is low enough for you to afford it.

Are you aware that a place bet is nothing more than a put bet with pre-defined odds? I.E. A $6 place on the 6 is the same as a $1 put, plus $5 odds.

But the place bet has two advantages over put bets: The flat part and odds are combined when considering the table minimum, and the place bet can be taken down or turned off at any time. With the put bet, only the odds part can be taken down or turned off, and the flat part of the bet by itself must be the table minimum.

Bottom line: Unless you are playing a table with low minimum and high odds, it's not worth the effort.

Coincidentally, exactly the type of tables that have a house rule to disallow such bets (for example, Joker's Wild).

Here's a math question for those who are familiar with the real world out there:

Who thinks that the percentage of players making put bets that are doing themselves a favor mathematically is greater than 1%?

Most people I see making put bets are beginners.
