My local casino is having a craps tournament, the entry fee is only $35 and the winner gets $2,500. So I figured, why not? I have blown $35 in worse ways.
Does anyone have any insight how these things typically work?
Any strategies? Do you play any different?

I was at a Craps tournament at The Orleans once.
Played like a normal game, except it only lasted a finite number of throws. (Other rules, like maximums, etc. check the fine print for, like you would for any kind of tournament.)
Be aware of what other people's stacks are like, and you'll probably have to contend with aggressive play to get anywhere worthwhile; at one BJ tournament I was at, one guy was behind quite a bit 3/4ths of the way through, so he went all in and kept pressing to the limit. Final hand, they allowed all-in of your entire stack and he landed a BJ. In the span of 5 hands or so, he went from the basement to a placing position.
The biggest winner at my craps table was some guy who took what remained of his stack and stuck it all on the horn on the last throw.

I must say that's awesome and I wish I had that opportunity. I've never played in one so I'm no help in that regard. If I were in a tournament like this I would probably avoid place bets all together (assuming it's a "largest stack wins" tournament.) I'd stick to come bets and/or buying the 4/10. Oh yeah, obviously max odds too. Sounds like a great way to play out of your comfort zone. What strategy do you usually play?

I've played in four tournaments, three at Caesars and one at MGM. If I remember correctly both were 21 throws. In my case I played the don'ts since everyone else at my table played the right side.
