I watched a guy at the craps table play in a unique albeit crazy way.
Every roll, he'd bet either $100 or $200 each on both DP or DC and Field.
Huh?

That may be the MATH, but what was his POINT in playing the two like that?
Hedging?
Stupidity?

I suppose the field is the hedge for triple on 12 where he loses the line bet. I see some people do pass/don't pass at same time because they want to only take odds on certain numbers. Even worse, I see them pick up the don't bet on 6's and 8's when doing foolish stuff like that.

If you must bet the field on the comeout while shooting, the don't is less of a hedge than the pass line.
With 1 unit on the don't and 1 unit on the field

6: -0.91
7: -2
8: -0.91
9: +1.2
10: +1.33
11: <push>
12: +3
Chance to win: (1+2+3+4+3+1)/36 = 14/36 = 38.88%
Chance to lose (4+5+6+5)/36 = 20/36 = 55.55%
Chance to push: 2/36 = 5.55%
Average win amount: 3*(1/14)+2*(2/14)+1.33*(3/14)+1.2*(4/14)+1.33*(3/14)+3*(1/14) = (3+4+4+4.8+4+3)/14= 22.8/14 = 1.62 units per 2 units on the felt
The only true hedge is the 11. So it's not a bad combo aside from the high edge on the field. Certainly a better combo than the pass line and the field an equal unit each. That is death.
