My goal: leave after a long roll
My definition of long roll is hitting 10+ numbers.
Well, first 2 shooters I more or less break even.
Next shooter = long roll! I'm up 600.
Now I should leave but I've been here only 15min so I stayed for 1 more shooter. (Discipline fail)
Got $ on all the #s and hit 4 points then a 7. So I basically broke even.
Cashed out. (discipline observed)
Had lunch nearby. After lunch I was itching to go back. Walked around a little then got in my car and drove home.
Next time I'm going to set the goal of x min or $ won/loss, whichever comes first.

I know the feeling. When that happens, I set a portion or all of the winnings aside and play what's left. You can try that next time, too.
Quote: Zcore13Good job, but gambling should never be done based on time unless you are just wanting the entertainment value and money is not the goal. Time is always on the House's side. That's the number one mistake I see in Table Games. People playing based on time almost always lose after they could have won.

But if you're not an AP, every bet is on the House's side regardless of how long you play. Gambling should always be done for entertainment, not for income. Most people, myself included, spend a large amount of money and/or time getting to a gambling destination. For them, time *and* money are interrelated goals. Winning is entertaining, but so is just playing. That's why people don't take $1000 to Vegas for the weekend and put it all on one spin of roulette right after they unpack.
After a large win, the evaluation may change. If you've got an extra $600 in your pocket early on during a gambling trip, and you know you're going to be in town for a while, would you feel better (a) keeping the money and/or spending it on non-wagering activities (shopping, spa, golf, dinners, show, etc.) or (b) betting more, knowing that you could lose it back or win more? The answer isn't the same for everyone, and it's not even consistent over time. I've had both reactions to early wins. The biggest win of my life came on a ski trip to Tahoe. It was the first night and I didn't bet any more the rest of the trip. Another time I turned a nice run at a Caesars LV dice table into a few extra additions to my wardrobe. There's something about wearing a shirt you've paid for with gambling winnings...
Of course, one day I hope to be driving a car I've paid for with game licensing royalties, but that's a different story.
We all have little tricks. One pocket that is for carrying chips and another pocket that is more of a temporary "bank" for the chips. A reserve. A sort of "winnings area". ...Quote: NareedI know the feeling. When that happens, I set a portion or all of the winnings aside and play what's left. You can try that next time, too.
Of course then we dip into it ... but just a little ... after all there is lots of time left to make it back.
The smartest guy is the one at the track who puts some money in his shoe as he enters the track and gives that to his wife from his "winnings" no matter how badly he actually does at the track.

You are correct Time is always on the House's side.... But how many times have you won within the First hour and stayed only to lose? If you are going to win, it will happen pretty quickly... But its all in how you like to enjoy the game... Some people are grinders. I enjoy the hit and run...

ahh.. thx. my win goal is normally double or bust.
i walked in w/$1500.
but today i just wanted to have fun by enjoying a long roll.
Quote: teddysWhat exactly are you going for? With a $10 minimum, come bet every toss, your expected loss is about $13/hour. Are you getting comped above and beyond that with cashback? Are you having fun playing?
heck no, not being comped that much. not even close.
yes having fun.
next time i'll stick with my normal goal of double or nothing (or until i'm not having fun anymore). whichever comes first
Sound good?
