From what I have observed, they are very reluctant to call "no dice" on short rolls, probably from the instructions from above to get as many rolls in per hour as they can, and the belief that those are all random rolls if the truth were known.
I'm very disappointed if I don't get one of the 2 dice to roll short of the wall at least 20% of the time.
Quote: odiousgambitYou might as well push the limit though. Up to them if they don't want tips.
Quote: FleaStiffIt is indeed annoying but they are following their various management directives.
Here are the responses to them that fall in the same category:
1) Turning bets on and off (in this case off is a good thing to do) -- if they give them back, have them set them back up -- if they ask why you are doing this, tell them you got out of your zone when the box man made his comment
2) Throwing the dice in a way where the box man has to search for the dice (die down) -- make sure to say "oops" in a convincing way .. don't chuck them like a quarterback doing a hail mary
3) fart
4) take a really long time to set the dice -- take drinks from your drink and be facing the other way when the dice get sent out to you
Any time they comment about any of these things that you are doing which are also annoying to them, just mention about getting put out of your normal zone when the box man made his comment and that maybe you will get back into your zone again.
Quote: DocThe closest thing to heat I have ever gotten is repeated admonition to hit the back wall. It seems I have a wimpy throw that doesn't always make it, even though I throw in the air at least 2/3 the length of the table. I don't think I have ever had a short throw called a no roll.
On my recent trip through Mississippi, I had recurring problems getting the dice to go straight. On one table, every throw I made bounced to the left, no matter how hard or how lofted I threw. I was throwing from the very end, from the stick man's left, and twice when I threw the dice in the air to the "Come" label at the other end, they bounced into the air straight left and hit the base dealer in the chest. I never understood that. I complained about the table every time they complained about my not hitting the end wall, but I think they understood that I was joshing.
One of those two times was when I was told "all the way down" and I thought there was nothing wrong with my throw.
I said, "you would think that the box man would have enough discretion to know when to call a short roll and when not to."
He took the dice away from me and there wasn't even another shooter!
The boxman was Anatoly at the Silverton. I later apologized to him.
Of course they are just doing their job.
just part of that. There are many casino's where the crew does not care if you hit the back wall. but some one else does
so they have to call it. If you are a random thrower they sure as heck are not telling you to hit the back wall because they
want to get in your head so you change your shot.
On tubs both dice have to hit the back wall so the shot counts.... that is a rule, just stick with it.
For a good dicesitter, you will get heat.. thats life, you set the dice quickly, throw and hit the back wall and
you will hardly ever have a problem.
The most heat i see is in Laughflin..... much worse than Vegas or AC, the night pit boss at "Aq" does not like dicesitting, yet if you set quickly
and throw he is not unbearable..... the "P" place has the table open most times as a half table, most times you set up
and throw a few hands and if he sees your decent, he will remove the half table and then you have problems, because
i cant have much control from one end to the other. I have had stick men lean over so i cant hit my spot, i look them
directly in the eye and say excuse me, if they dont move, i color up and move. Its their table.
The point is you play by what ever rules they have, and if those rules dont fit you.... dont play....
That is how you win at craps.... have a decent shot and play on tables you are confortable with. You dont
give $10,000 to a stock broker you dont trust, and you should not risk your money in a gambling situation
where you dont have a fighting change..

Horn High Ace Deuce when the yo pays 15-to-1 is a SUPER sucker bet! 4-unit crap check 1-unit yo pays 1 unit more on the hi-lo (and is still a sucker bet).
If you do all those things esp #4 IDE have my dealer "dump the bowl" And we would have a new shooter.

I've never had someone besides the shooter get the bowl dumped. I would enjoy that if you were able to accomplish it as I always like seeing new things I haven't seen before.

Quote: Beethoven9thDoes anyone else get irritated at stickmen/boxmen who are a little too quick on the trigger to warn players about throwing the dice all the way down? For example, I was shooting the other night. On one roll I tossed the dice in the air, and they bounced off the table about 3-4 inches from the back wall. One of the dice happened to die as soon as it hit the felt, and it stopped within an inch of the back wall. The other continued and bounced off the wall.
I immediately got a warning from the stick who glared at me and gruffly said, "All the way down, sir!"
What happened at the table before you shot? What happened when you shot earlier? Was a supervisor standing over his shoulder and he was trying to impress the supervisor?
He reminded you to hit the back wall. No harm, no foul. Why would you get upset over it? In fact, if he thought you were a dice influencer he might have said that just to put you on edge -- much like what happened to me when a pit boss at MGM went to the table I was shooting at and said to the crew "If Mr M misses the back wall just once take the dice away from him." And I wasn't even shooting at the time.
It's all part of their "psychology." If you let it bother you they win. And you were bothered by it -- which is why you are telling us. So this question: did it affect your play or betting after that?
When I am shooting I concentrate and do not make small talk with the dealers between shots. The dealers know that. In fact, the dealers and floormen know that when I am shooting and a new player comes to the table and starts asking questions about how to play they take that new player off to the side so that I am not distracted. Then, on my last visit when I am having a great roll, already had 5 passes and three points on the fire, the floorman starts talking to a dealer about "customer service" and then... he asked me if I thought customer service had changed at the casino. Bam. My concentration was broken. 7-out.
It was my first roll for that particular craps session. Prior to my roll, a couple others (who, like me, were obviously NOT intentionally throwing short) were also given the same warning about their infrequent short rolls, and they looked annoyed too. It's been several months now, so I can't recall if a floor/pit boss was scrutinizing the crew, but from what I can remember, I don't believe so.Quote: AlanMendelsonWhat happened at the table before you shot? Didn't really get "upset". Just found it kind of annoying because: (1) it was a single short roll (which was clearly unintentional), and (2) the stick's overall attitude just seemed unnecessary. Kinda like if I accidentally bump into someone at the supermarket, and he/she glares at me in response and says with an attitude, "Watch where you're going, man!" No harm done, but stuff like that is still somewhat irritating. In the end though, it's just a minor pet peeve.Quote: AlanMendelsonHe reminded you to hit the back wall. No harm, no foul. Sure did. I believe I left shortly after...lolQuote: AlanMendelsonSo this question: did it affect your play or betting after that?
and their people.
YOU control nothing except your decision to play there and what to bet,
and when to leave.
A casino that does not like a DI well ask you to throw harder and harder
and harder, you cant throw hard enough, the stick man will bend over the
table so you cant throw down the line. At Oshea's when they were still
there, on the longest roll i ever had, the pit boss stopped the game so
he could get more players on the table. when he got done my shoulders
were hitting the stickman and the guy on the other side of me. It was hard
to throw and there was no place to throw.
You have to concentrate on what your doing, dont let them bother you, and
if you lose your concentration....you quit, walk away
If your in control of your play...... you win.
