Update history:
March 18, 2014: Removed Orleans, Gold Strike *Note: Everything else is probably outdated.
It WAS $3 per point and it was a good play on multiplier days. (That's when I had my $2K win).Quote: fremont4everAs of September, the El Cortez offered both points and comp $ on their machine. It was $3/point and it did work with my multiplier. Odds are included. 500 points are worth $1 in cash or dining credit. Comp dollars can be used for hotel and/or dining bills.
Now it's $12 or $20 per point (can't remember which). Somebody wised up.
Quote: VenthusI was looking at one of these units the other day and it got me thinking about which of these units take cards, and what kind of stuff you could get out of them. What other units do people know of that take cards and give points/other stuff?
The Orleans: NO SLOT POINTS; 1$ per card score
Binion's: 20$ per point
CET: 45$ per tier credit (courtesy of tringlomane)
Sunset Station: 4$ for 3 points (unconfirmed)
El Cortez: 12(?)$ per point (works with multipliers, courtesy of teddys)

Gold Strike in Jean Nevada does. I earned a Butt load of points on it. I got two free tanks of gas, about 4 free buffets, free room for a couple of nights, and I got something in the mail that said I could stay free a bunch of times throughout the year.
I'm never playing there again however since the last time I played they totally changed the rules that screwed up my system.

Really? I think I stopped in there a few months back and it didn't even support ticketing. Kind of surprised they'd have a card system in place if they didn't have that.

At Gold Strike it's actually a better deal to play their Aruze blackjack machine: full 1% comp on a -0.40% game, and you can exchange the comps for gas, rooms or food. So you can, as Bob Dancer told me, "drive 30 miles south to pick up free gas." Works if you're coming in from California. Their rooms are terrible.

Quite convenient for me, since I do indeed drive from Cali.
I need to take a closer look at my math (it's too early...), but the numbers I'm getting suggests ever-so-slightly positive values at most efficient play too. One major reason I find it more attractive to grind points on the craps machine is that you can clock much greater amounts of action on it with lower exposure per unit time. Or, again, my math has gone sour. =P
I have yet to try their food. Might on the return trip. It's a toss-up between sneaking into Studio B at The M 5 minutes before the breakfast->lunch changeover or the believed-to-be suspicious, yet unexplored, comp'd cuisine at Gold Strike...
Very true. I didn't look into the craps game there, but I played $30/hand at the BJ game and lost $1,000 :-( If you could spread your action over multiple terminals, it would be less of a sweat/more of a grind, but they make it very hard to do that with the Aruze configuration.Quote: VenthusQuite convenient for me, since I do indeed drive from Cali.

If I play a max bet doey-dont...shouldn't I rack up tier points like no tommorow?

will the machine allow doey-dont?
or u mean 2 cards in 2player spaces? one play right, other playing dark?
for the riv, it's 5x odds on the shoot to win craps. but apparently with cashback/rewards, you get a lower house edge using machines with 2x odds but gives points.
It's got 5x odds, a P/DP of at least 20$ and, unlike MOST units, you CAN bet the D/DP on come out. (Every unit I've seen lets you bet C/DC.)
Some quick math, assuming a nice, even 24$ P/DP, cancelling out your odds, and 1$ insurance on the 12, your average action per roll is just under 185$. It'll cost you ~1350$ to snag Emerald.
And... just to reiterate so I don't have angry people at me: Tier points are NOT the same as slot points and CANNOT be spent on food/etc.

Is this a Boyd property? You can probably get emerald for less on average by playing video poker, I would hope. Obv more swingy though.

Yeah, The Orleans is one of the bigger and nicer Boyd properties. It's west on Tropicana, about a block away from The Palms/Gold Coast.
Well, you could forego the insurance. With the above though, you're exposing 24$ per roll for 48-268$ action, with an effective risk of 66c per roll.
The other thing is that at 1350 rolls, and something like 40 seconds per roll, it'll only take 15 hours to hit Emerald off a fresh account. Not a VPer myself, but at something like 3 seconds a hand, that'd be 18000 hands and 13.88$/hand. (Assuming points accrue at the same rate.)
On the oooother hand, VP play gets you slot points, so the cost is dramatically lower. If there are any fullpay units, the edge should be less than the insured craps rate, plus the comps.
In other news, Cosmo has huge limits and no comps. I think their loss rebate is valid to lose here though.

Edit:
Cosmo
P/DP: 5-500
Odds: 2x
Table Limit: 5000
Place: 500
NO POINTS
Binion
P/DP: 2-25
Odds: 2x
Table Limit: 500
Place: 2-25
Allows P/DP?: No
Allows C/DC?: Yes
*Note: Bloody hell, this is the second time I've had the screen stop responding to me while placing larger bets... there goes 80$. ><
4 Queens - Relatively new.
See Binion. I'm pretty sure that the entire system is shared, even the points. Just not the individual card ID.
Quote: teddysStations is now $12 per 3 points on all their craps games. Effectively, the play has been killed at all major casinos.
Does that $12/3pts include odds? I thought I read somewhere it was just line bets.
CET: Now $200 per tier point/tier credit instead of $45. This was at Harrah's so I assume it applies to all CET.
Orleans: No points whatsoever. There isn't even a slot to put a player's card anymore. There is a sign indicating no club points. Bummer - guess it was getting hit hard.
Looks like this play is going away in Vegas...oh well, video poker it is :)
