Craps Urban Legend?

Poker is my mainstay but I like to roll a few at the tables a couple of times per day. Out of curiosity I like to ask the croupiers what the longest they've seen a player go without hitting either the point or 7. Answers vary from 20 min. to as much as 45. I have no mathematical or strategic reason to ask the question; just a conversation starter, almost like, "So, where ya from?"

Invariably, however, I hear the story of "that lady in AC" that went 4 hrs straight without hitting the point or 7 out. And I've heard this all over Vegas--apparently it's a legendary story.

There's no basis for me to dismiss it out of hand as false, but it does sound like the stuff of urban legend. Likely many of you who play far more craps than I do have heard it as well. Is there any backup documentation for this? Any details?

Again, as a very casual player I'm not sure why this interests me so much--I think I'm more fascinated by the urban legend aspect of it than the gambling aspect of it!

She didn't go that long without a point...she went that long without a 7-out...
I'd say probably 45 minutes without hitting the point is the longest I've seen....(it was a 7-out, but MAN did they hit some box numbers)

and she rolled 7s, just not 7-outs.

Isn't this pretty much verified, that it actually happened?

OK, see THAT'S the part of the story they always leave out. Makes a whole lot more sense (and much closer to mathematical likelyhood) with that not-so-minor detail in the story.

The very first time I ever had Kelly (my woman) write down my rolls on paper while throwing at home on my table, I rolled over 60 rolls with no sevens at all.

They count rolls at Fremont in Downtown, and the California Club I think also does some things to record length of rolls.

It's really not all that common for anyone to care or pay attention to how long it goes if people aren't winning a ton of money.

Craps rolls which last more than one hour are not as rare as one might think.

Those who pull it off at The California casino in downtown Las Vegas get immortalized with a plaque placed on the Golden Arm Wall of Fame.

Thanks for the article YouCanBet. Interesting read. Is it just me or does she look a bit like a drag queen? No worries--if I could pull off that kind of shooting I'd be at the table everyday in 8" heels!

At the bridge between teh Cal and MSS, there's a wall of fame with plaques for long rolls at the Cal.

Last trip, someone made a point to show it to me.

They actually wrap around too...with the most current ones on the California side (closer to the gift shop wall)
When I played at The Cal..I did TERRIBLE, as everyone was a few rolls and out...

Yeah, it's funny both of those place are double odds and in downtown.

I played at both places a week or two ago. I shot great but barely bet and only made $80 at each place.

I had a really great time though!

I don't think the Cal or Main Street count rolls, but I think Fremont does (I think you get something for going over a certain number, like 15). They count every roll, including craps rolls before the point is established.

Also, Main Street offers 20x odds. The Cal only offers double.

In addition to the plaques on the bridge, I think there is a "golden hand" statue by the Craps tables in the Cal commemorating the record roll (that was eventually broken by the lady in AC).

You get a plaque by rolling the dice at the Cal for more than 60 minutes. Amazingly, there are some folks on the wall multiple times.

At the Rio in 2009, I was playing craps right before we headed to the airport.
The shooter rolled for 45 minutes. He had set an 8 point, and made it after 6 or so rolls.
He then set a point of 10, AND NEVER MADE IT.
So that roll was at least 40 minutes, WITH NO 7.

I made over $3500, and I never had more than $90 on any number on the table. I was getting paid $100 on every roll, and I thought that was fantastic.
With the way I play now, I would have been getting $350 on each throw towards the end of that roll, and would have booked $6000.
