My guess is that at a single deck, doing a spread of 1-4 will get you backed off, especially if you start winning.

Agree with boymimbo. You need some cover. You may need to use a smaller spread, and use cover techniques that dictate when you will raise or lower your bet.
If you learn all the composition-dependent exceptions, this game actually has a small player advantage without any counting. However, that is pretty difficult, and in reality you can probably learn the most useful ones and play about an even game.
Counting will give you more powerful strategy exceptions to use in this game that will easily give you a small edge, and then even a small bet spread will yield a decent advantage. However, the pit watches these games very, very closely.
You should purchase and run a simulation on casino verite (google it) if you are serious about trying this out. Its a fantastic program and the one that everyone uses.

Quote: nightravenHello,
I know this casino that offer single deck blackjack with the following rules:
blackjack pays 3 to 2
dealer hit soft 17
double after split
split up to four hands
double on any first two cards
late surrender available

"So, Barona wins the award for the best blackjack in San Diego County, with their single-deck game, having a house edge of 0.01% or 0.12%, depending on the number or players. It should be noted that this single-deck game is only found in the high limit room, at a $100 minimum. When I played there on a Friday night, both five-spot tables were usually full or near full. Barona also offers the most liberal low-limit blackjack, with a double-deck game at a house edge of 0.33%."

I do not understand what is being said here. If its 200 dollars and your comfortable with that then that does not affect the house edge. If in order to exploit this game your card counting efforts will be unrewarded why not just play at a different game. Undetected card counting at a lower limit table will be more rewarding to you than anything that goes on at a 200 a hand table. A floorperson will glance at other tables and wander around a bit but will stare fixedly at a 200 a hand table and never leave it. So if you are thinking of counting, I think you would get a greater return at a less-observed table with a bet increase that appeared to be whimsical.Quote: nightravenThe catch at this casino is the table minimum bet has to be $200 per hands, if there one player at the table, the dealer will deal out 5 hands or 20 card left or whatever come first.
