You can't make a pat hand, only way to win is if dealer busts, significant disadvantage to doubling there.

But you can make a pat hand, like 17, 18 or 19. The real question is why do you double a 8 made up of 5-3 against a dealer 5/6 and not double a 8 made of 6-2?
It is probably a very borderline decision, maybe the dealer is more likely to bust with the extra 5 out there.

I assume you're correct. If you have 5/3, you have two cards that would solidify a dealer's 15 or 16. If you have 6/2, you have two less strong cards for the dealer (including a potential breaker on the 16+6). It has to be a very very close call...
