I've been looking around and haven't seen any information on this - Would there be a player edge if the player only increased his bet to 2x rather than 8x, 16x or 32x using the Ave-Five count system? For those of us with small bankrolls this could reduce variance with the understanding that the player edge is reduced. If a 2x system is breakeven then theoretically the player can still take advantage of comps and drinks without huge bankroll swings.

I did some work on this problem about 8 years ago. Presuming your rules are favorable for Ace-Five (Dealer stands soft 17 and either Late Surrender or Re-Split Aces is allowed) there is a small advantage by spreading 1 to 3 units. Perhaps as little as 0.03%. By Spreading 1 to 4, the advantage grows to about 0.15%. Both of these values also presume that you will exit the game if the Ace-Five Count reaches -5 (play at -4 but leave at -5).

Do not use Ace-Five if:
The Dealer Hits Soft 17
You cannot double after splitting pairs
Doubling down is restricted in any way (like 9-10-11 only, or No soft Doubling)
You can only split one time (Split to 2 hands only)
Both of the following two rules are not offered;
Late Surrender
Re-Split Aces

You may flat-bet Ace Five at these tables, following the rules to "Reduce the House Advantage", but do not increase the bet, as generally speaking, the House will have an advantage when doubling or tripling the base bet.
