Surrender is pretty rare at the low stakes tables I'm used to. I can't speak for the high limit tables, which often have better rules.

My nearby casino has surrender, which I used a lot when they had a $5 table, early this year they only had $25 tables, so they surrendered from low limit play.

If you use it properly, there should be no regret. Do you regret standing on a 17 when the next card is a 4? Or hitting 15 against a 10 when the card you got would have busted the dealer?

This is the reason why ALL CASINOS should offer surrender. For the very few who can use it properly, there are dozens of players making big mistakes using it. The more options you give to a player and the more chances he will have to turn the options into mistakes. Unfortunately casinos are run by morons who have no clue. They simply look at the House Edge of a game and believe every player is playing to this HE when in fact most of them are lost in the rules. GIVE OPTIONS and you will make MORE money.

While I totally agree with GMan, I have a couple theories why it's not offered at the low limits.

1 - When a sharp player uses the surrender, ploppies will ask about it, and that slows the game down too much.

2 - Casino management believes that ignorant poppies who would otherwise correctly use the surrender, would instead make the wrong hit/stand decision.

On the flip side, the house edge, in dollars, from a player who is correctly using the surrender and playing basic strategy, is higher than that of a ploppy making mistakes at low limits.

So the casino offers the better rules rather than risk losing the bigger player to a different casino.
I invented a few casino games. Info: http://www.DaveMillerGaming.com/ ————————————————————————————————————— Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? 😁

The Sahara offered Dealer Surrender for a short time. I forget the exact details but it was along the line of player who had 20 could surrender and get half a win when the dealer showed a ten. I played it once and no one was using it. I thought it might help a card counter who had a large bet out but decided it was more of a trap.

To me the only winning hand initially and reliably is a hand that equals to 21... 20 is no good to me tbh
