I've been playing this $5 8-deck game with good rules. I can't bet much because it's a low ball game, and it's dicey anyway because it's 8-decks. They don't have quarters, so they round up on blackjacks. If I bet $7.50 instead of $5 when I'm at a disadvantage, does that actually decrease the house edge? If so, is it substantial? I'm calculating this would decrease the house edge in neutral and negative counts by nearly half. Is that right? How do I get away with betting a pink on half my hands, when I sometimes throw out a black--is it worth it? Thanks.
Quote: RSAt 100 rounds per hour, you expect about 5 blackjacks per hour. If you always bet $7.50, you'd be making winning an extra $1.25 on top of your expected loss. So at most you're saving $1.25/hour. Given that BJs happen more often in + counts than - counts, and you won't always be betting that wonky amount, this's likely save you less than 50c an hour. Or if anything, cost you money, due to decreased game play speed (rounds per hour).
I think he would be winnng $11.25 rounded to 12 so .75×5 for 3.75 extra per hour.
I mean, unless they're rounding up to full dollar amounts...but in that case, having pinks wouldn't make sense.
Quote: RSIf they have pink chips AND round up AND don't have quarters, then they'd round $11.25 payout up to $11.50, which would be 1 Red, 1 Pink, and 4 Whites ($1's).

Oh yeah that makes sense. Not sure why I didn't think of that. Damn maths

Eh, it's more like common sense than it is math. But sure. :-)
Quote: onenickelmiracleAre the pink chips only playable at black jack everywhere? I tried using them at craps and wasn't allowed.
Usually only on tables that have them. Blackjack, baccarat, PGP, etc.
Casinos get fined for quarters in the tray in some jurisdictions, surely Ohio I remember, former Horseshoe Cleveland.Quote: DeucekiesYou would think in a jurisdiction where improper bets have to be rounded up, the casino would either A) only allow bets in $1 increments, or B) keep quarters in the tray.
I'll tell you why; because you think in dollars. Dealers are trained to think in chips. I.E. that $7.50 bet with a BJ does NOT get paid $11.25 rounded. It is paid this way: a red and pink paid to the red, four whites paid to the pink.Quote: GWAEOh yeah that makes sense. Not sure why I didn't think of that. If you had two then usually they'll allow it. But they'll act as if it's currency and not put them on the layout.Quote: onenickelmiracleAre the pink chips only playable at black jack everywhere? I tried using them at craps and wasn't allowed.
I.e. If you bet two pinks, they'll swap it for a red, and put the pinks into the drop box.
