No coincidence that the economy is a complete joke. Capitalism is the only real way to have a sustainable and growing economy. Not handing out welfare checks to people who dont work. Yes, Im an AP and i dont really 'work' either but at least im not asking for a handout. All this socialistic wealth distribution is not only unconstitional, but completely erroneous to how a successful economy grows.
Won't get too political here, but the real problem is the income tax, which is the real reason America has gone down the gutter from the worlds biggest creditor to now the worlds biggest debtor. You want to tax productivity, you get less productivity. You get less productivity, less and less small businesses. Lesser small businesses, less growth in neighborhoods, etc. Thank the corrupt government for this.
P.S. Real World wont be a challenge. Ive been hearing all my life how something will be hard and i fly by it with flying colors. Life wont be any different. Sorry. Here's some kindly advice. I think you probably know some poker. Learn ABC, tight aggressive play. You can get a Diamond card pretty easily in poker. Other promos occasionally pop up as well. Free food every day, free gym, shows, rooms, etc. Great gift wrap up. An alternative to machine play for that stuff and the information is all just sitting there in the open and the casinos don't care if you do it.
A good way to meet people and make connections, as well.

P.S. Some gamblers have a "regular job" or a self-run business for mortgage applications or housing applications.
Many of the best gamblers I know are part-time or retired. It's difficult to earn 100K+/yr part-time (unless you already have a 7-8+ figure net worth), but many earn $60K-90K (six figures in better years) while gambling 1,000-1,500 hrs/year.

The point is that your a real hustler! You had your mind set up on gaming for a living and willing to do what is necessary. You actually packed up and jumped into the water and started to swim. Perhaps I am wrong but I don't think you decided to hang out with the parents and do Christmas and New Years trying to figure out how to move to Vegas. It isn't that you can't love mommy and daddy but it is kinda odd for hustler/ap types to be so concerned with square things. Usually we or they are concerned about crushing casinos and thats pretty much it! I don't know you and what you did but it sounds like once you wanted to move to Vegas... that is what you did! Damn the torpedoes so to speak! It is gonna be hard to understand about how tough it is to move to this town with the plan of counting cards every day all day without knowing anyone and worrying about what to put on a stupid application for an apartment! Someone said in an earlier post... The Struggle is Real!! This is some good advice if you ask me. Understand that it is going to be nothing but struggle and not some normal square job type of struggle. Wait for the day that you come home losing over 10k (that's 20% of his BR) and see how you handle it the next day :) !!
On a side note... they did just legalize marijuana in this state for anyone over 21 so that is a plus if your into that sort of thing!

How would you send him? Thru the Great Plains and over the Rockies in January?
Why would he be bringing his bankroll in cash,by the way?
My first real Apartment I rented solo after getting into AP was Great. It wasn't over priced nor really cheap. It wasn't a brand new complex, but It had everything, It was walled but can't remember the gate actually working, tennis courts, tanning bed, pool, steam room, indoor jacuzzis, gym( all with 24 hour access),business center, Volleyball court, Basketball court, pool table, free event room and club house for parties or whatever(I used it many times), small library, great convenient location, It bordered a park, lots of good looking friendly girls, lots of friendly neighbors(some I'm still friends with), Bonus it was fairly close to In-N-Out and banking ) One of my AP friends liked the place enough that he moved to the same complex(I even got $200 off my rent for referring him).Quote: ZenKinGSo I finally found out where I want to say after hours on end of research. It seems to fit all the criteria I wanted in terms of safety, price, and proximity to the strip. Now my question is, what do i tell the apartment what I do for a living on the application? They ask for employer and income etc. I surely can't tell them im a professional gambler with the stigma attached to that as well as potentially ratting me out to nearby casinos(low chance but still).
Any ideas? I might be able to slide by without credit on this place, just wondering how to go about the application on the 'employer' field and 'income' field.
You can say self-employed if you must.
I showed my bank statements.
I put up 6 months worth of rent as a deposit, plus first and last. I still paid my rent for that 6 months, after that they just applied the rest of the money to my next 6 months. After a year or so I upgraded to a large 2 bedroom 2 bath 2nd floor without any BS. When I left that place to upgrade further west, I had a reference letter and the management personally called my next location and I had no problem getting in.
Some places will NOT rent to you even if you offer them a full year upfront. You must pass a credit check, provide a rental history and prove you make 3 times the amount of the rent per month.
Your best option is to have someone co-sign for you, however, they risk messing up their credit.
Hint whenever you sign a new lease or there's a rent increase don't just ask for a free last month for some strane reason they will oftentimes say yes to that, but remain firm on a small increase you are actually getting a better deal.
IMO you should get centrally located to the places you'll be playing. Spending time traveling to the casinos and home can be a bitch especially compared to 20 years ago. Make sure you have good air conditioning in your car.
Location really affects your car instance here. I believe E. Tropicana is the highest rates due to car theft.
I believe people were putting Pahrump down as their address saving a bundle(I wouldn't attempt that myself )

Not that there is anything wrong with that.
I would agree, but it seems that one route may have a 0.0001 percent "edge" over the other so its a question as momentous as whether the 2 is good for the dealer or bad for the dealer Besides, if you take the wintery-like snow and slush route, you are liable to get "free salt" from the roadways ... and that is like getting a free watered-down drink in a tiny little plastic cup full of ice-cubes from the casino.Quote: CalderIf the weather on the drive out is the concern, this thread may have run its course.

Im now at 50k cash
Hi ZK,
A very interesting post and you've had an ongoing thread that somewhat makes it clear that you may be in for a hard time.
With your 50k bankroll, you have two objectives: Grow that bankroll and support yourself. The problem is that the costs of supporting yourself, even if you plan to be very VERY frugal, will deplete your bankroll relentlessly and pretty quickly. Those fixed costs will make the normal ebb and flow of playing your game look almost insignificant. I have to assume that you have clearly understood and even modelled the likely chart of your bankroll playing with Kelly or maybe half Kelly. You seem to be basing your entire venture on falling to the positive side of the variance curve for quite some time. It may work out, it may not. That is not a matter of skill, but is a matter of unpredictable luck.
As to your style of play and your proposed rotation of properties: That seems fraught with some very serious risks. Maybe the chains at which you already have a bad reputation have already poisoned your chances at a few Vegas venues. Maybe you will run out of playable venues far quicker than you expect to.
In truth, maybe, just maybe, you will start out with a lucky winning streak and will not realise that you are overbetting, as you head for addiction and oblivion.
Fire up Excel or some game modelling software and model your playing style, wagering level and bankroll. see how incredibly volatile your bankroll chart would be even with perfect wonging, superb play and best sustainable advantage. Then decide if you want to take that gamble.
Oh. and try to realistically assess your own character flaws.
Good luck in any event.
Quote: ZenKinGAh you're right forgot abotu that as well.
Oh ZKG,
You are going to have to pay far more attention to detail than that if you are to prosper as a full time AP.
Tell us, in your 24 years living with Mom and Dad, how much day to day budget control did you develop? Do you know the price of a loaf of bread or a bottle of milk? Can you cook, wash, iron, do your own tax return, cover your own medical bills. There's a point, do you know the tax implications of your chosen life plan, or do you hope to just fly under the radar?
As to filling out your next tenancy agreement, which will be trickier than the one with Mom and Dad. . . Are you able to convince a potential landlord that you are retired at 24, and have significant independent means? I somehow doubt it.

I dont use kelly, i use my own custom spread and bet sizing, which gives me a pretty close estimate to what an optimal spread and Kelly betsizing would give me while at the same time still giving me a much higher win rate and keeping my ROR very low at about 0.2%. I got a pretty good handle on what to expect and have adjusted accordingly by already factoring a potential losing streak into the equation just in case it does happen and what I can continue to bet at a low risk while still paying the rent, food, etc.
With that being said, Im starting to realize a couple of things, the housing expenses are going to be a lot more than i originally thought and am rethinking some things and probably want at least 60k before i move out there. I might have to lower my bet sizes and hope to make another 5-10k this month. I wasnt factoring the utilities and not realizing that most places come unfurnished and the price doesnt include any furniture whatsoever. So I then have to buy the couches, etc and then also have to pay someone to move in my furniture, another expense, small yes, but it starts to add up. I could bring some of my stuff from my house, but how will i get it there? I will have to haul it over there through a company, because I wont be able to fit it in my car.
The plan is still January to move there. Im going to log a lot of hours these next 2 weeks, probably at least 100 and see where it puts me for a January vegas assault.

None of this stuff is all that easy and most people don't make it. But, you don't have to be particularly good to make a small profit at 1/2 playing a few hours a week, and that's all it takes to get a diamond card.
Like I said, poker strategy is freely posted all over the place and casinos don't care at all if you win at poker. Sports, machines, etc. you'll only get some bread crumbs and the casinos might not want winners.
I made some good connections through poker. Friends with a guy who wrote a (good) book about sports. All the people I know from this forum, I was initially linked to through poker. Or, it might be as simple as someone recommending a good mechanic or who knows somebody looking for a roommate.

Yeah anyone who wants to spend 3 more weeks with family before moving 2500 miles away from them and then seeing them maybe once a year is surely destined to fail as an AP and as a human. Forget the fact that he's also going to use that time to build up more bankroll while living cheap.
That offer goes to anyone local to Vegas. I'm finding auctions and estate sales more lucrative than low level video poker for now.

Hi again ZK,
Well, I have to say, your preparations seem to be impeccable. I will take your word for the numbers, ROR etc. Great that you have it all under control.
That you can be confident of turning 50k into 60k in just a couple of weeks makes me wonder why you are hesitating. It sounds like you have totally mastered all aspects of counting: Know where to get the best games: Know that you have a sure fire winning strategy: And are very confident that your strategy will relocate easily. From what you say, it would seem that KJ should aspire to be you and he'd possibly envy your youth.
So, ZK, I say go for it JFDI. The sky's the limit. What could possibly go wrong?
Please start a blog here, dude, and report your progress. I'm sure it will be fascinating.

Ah, hubris!
Sounds like people have questioned your actions / plans your "whole life."
Odds are it was your parents, who presumably love you and care for your well-being.
It's one thing to break the ties, move out of the parents' house, and try to make your way in the world; but it would be foolish to disregard the presumably constructive ciriticism you've gotten from them over the years.
They have a house; you don't: they obviously know somethng about how this wicked world works.
Keep your eyes on the horizon, and your ears open.
Fly out to Vegas, rent a car, and stay a month at some weeklies.
It it works, fly back & drive your car over.
You might want to try a month of Las Vegas summer before deciding to stay here 12 months/yr.
Even when I lived mostly in Vegas, I did the summers elsewhere.
Quote: ZenKinGI sense the sarcasm. It's alright ill prove everyone wrong like i have my whole life
OK, ZK
I admit it. A bit of sarcasm.
I did consider estimating how you could turn $50k into $60k in a hundred or so hours of play while keeping a low risk of ruin. I might still pop some numbers into the ROR calculator.
At a zero edge game wagering about 5k per hand, a very rough estimate puts your probability of ruin at 100x(1-5/6) or 16% ( dangerous but not outrageous )
Intuitively, to make the average $100 or so per hour, you would need to find or manufacture a pretty good sustained average player advantage. I don't see that as sustainable unless you are going to take some serious risks. Sorry. I just don't see it. I suspect you are making some over optimistic assumptions.
Other than that, I do seriously commend your apparent preparations. No sarcasm there.
Also, seriously. JFDI and start a blog. I'm sure it would make good reading whichever way it works out for you.

And I hope your goal isn't to buy your first house when you're 55. Presumably you grew up in your parents' house, so that means they bought it when they were in their early 30s. I've established and/or refinanced five mortgages in my lifetime (so far), the first when I was in my late 20s. Even back then, I needed a stable income and a credit history to qualify for the loan.
But my most recent house purchase was earlier this year and, let me tell you from first-hand experience, post-housing-bubble lenders are very, very stingy. This was by far the most difficult mortgage transaction of the five. I'm now self-employed and, despite my high credit score, I had to provide years of tax returns to convince the lenders that I was mortgage-worthy. If you have neither a credit history nor the tax returns to substantiate your income, you shouldn't expect to qualify for a mortgage anytime soon. If owning your own home is a near-term goal of yours, you'd be well-advised to get started on the prerequisites.

Paying my house with cash, which is the way it should be. If you cant afford something in life, you dont get it or deserve it. No handouts for anyone. Good luck with that.

I told you... if and when you move to Vegas make sure you have your hand out all day every day. You better learn to ask Hosts and anyone else in power for anything and everything! If your going to try to make a living counting cards only and pay for everything on your own without taking any freebies your gonna have a very difficult time. I don't understand how people are going to choose a dark path like counting cards or gambling for a living and try to live like some upstanding young citizen who pays taxes, tithes to the church, and pays cash for everything. It is like everyone has forgotten that gambling is not an honest trade! I don't care what these APs on the Internet or this site tell you! It is a cesspool no matter how perfumed that air is up on the strip or those 5 thousand dollar leather chairs your sitting in, make no mistake this is a dark path not a path of light no matter how much these AP's preach honesty! Did you see the movie Casino? Do you even know the true story about Lefty and the Ant? Don't you remember that we are supposed to be out here robbing the joint?? Does anyone realize all the blood that has been spilled all over the streets so you can sit in your Black Jack chair trying to count cards all day long in air condition? Do you realize your heading down a path of hustling for a living? Do you realize that Vegas is a town of nothing but Hustlers looking for Edges and Weak Spots? This place is the land of Wolves and you sound more and more like a Lamb! I know your not really going to move here anyway but your posts are getting further and further out there!
I keep telling myself I am done with this thread but you keep sucking me in with these outrageous posts and I just can't help myself to keep taking the bait!
