Buddy bets $10k a hand at BJ and is down like $250k at Foxwoods. He calls up his "good luck charm." She sits with him at his private table and he hands her cut card hoping to change his luck. He's down to his last $50K or so. She cuts every shoe and he proceeds to go on a sick heater. An hour later he's up $100k.
Now here's the part that gets me. She didn't play. Had no stake in the game. Just cut the damn cards. And he gives her 10k!!!!
He told me it's like tipping a dice roller who goes on a heater. I'm like whatever dude.
What do you think? Am I out of line to be so harsh?
If someone is wacky enough to have a person on call who's a good luck charm, and is rich enough or dumb enough to be betting 10k a hand i'm not sure why you think he's more dumb for giving her 10k.Quote: fuzzynavelI see your point. But then I read the threads on how to tip dealers. And I'm in the service industry in a casino and rely on tips myself. That 10k would take me years to make in tips.
If she doesn't gamble or do drugs then giving her the 10k is perhaps the smartest thing he did. The money can go to good use.
Question: Why did he wait until he was down 250k before he called in his charm? Why not just have assure he had good luck at the beginning? He would probably have been up 300k

The guy only tipped the good luck charm one bet. It's just a very big bet. There's a good chance that he'd like something in return.
To go from being down 25 units to being up 10 units is a nice turn of events. What I'm wondering is how good a blackjack player he is.
RS, you haven't actually experienced this particular circumstance have you ;-)Quote: RS. If someone thought I was their good luck charm, I ain't showing up to the casino for free.
You know I love you man, can I borrow some $$?
Really? We're talking about an acquaintance of his, not a random stranger. And we're talking about one bet.
The fact that the one bet is a fortune to you and me is irrelevant.
Exactly.Quote: Samhain...Now this story doesnt sound so crazy does it?
My thought--he can do whatever he wants to do with his money.
Quote: ernestmiddleA real sport would have split his winnings with her.
He's not married to her
Really?
I am talking to myself, perhaps.
Perhaps not ;-)
Quote: fuzzynavelHe's not married to her
That's why he should have split his winnings with her.
Quote: fuzzynavelYour definition of several locations = one other? OK.
I just was wondering (when I wrote that) if anyone on the boards gave you the answer you wanted to hear...
Again, my thought is his money, his call.
If you said that the guy owed you $1,000 and tipped her $10,000 and did not repay you at the same time, I'd feel differently about it.
