I would assume your readers would like to hear from someone who is actually making a fuck ton of money and not sitting behind a math degree preaching the rules of the game or from someone making hardly anything from blackjack. I never said you had to play my way, I simply offered up my opinions on this game I love in an open forum.
How dare you all sit there with your pathetic bankrolls and counsel my thread's integrity, this game is about making money, I make lots of it playing this game and I described for readers what works for me. Shame on you sheep for taking it down.
MY ORIGINAL THREAD
I have been playing blackjack over the last 20 years and in the last few years pretty regularly and I can say without a doubt that when certain situations come up I lose much more frequently than I win and Im talking 90% of the time. The one in particular is the dreaded 12 looking at a 10, the book says to hit and when I do without fail 90% of the time I get a 10 and bust. It happens so often that it's clearly a -EV move for me to hit this hand. The other is hitting 15 and 16 when a 10 is showing, I hit this hand all the time but once again I will bust most of the time. After 20 years of playing I just can't see where hitting these hands is +EV, I mean I lose all the time with them, it's uncanny.
The other thing i will say is that progressive systems don't work and I know that but neither does single unit betting for 10 hours in a 50/50 game when your trying to win a lot of money. Both styles just seem to have a lot of ups and downs but eventually I get slowly chipped away and I end up loser. I am not a counter but what I have seen is there is value in making a big bet after losing a bunch of hands. My friend was a big winner recently at the tables and recently won $100,000 in 2 days without counting and I was there and was able to see the evolution of a guy who bought in for $500 and turned it into $100,000. He doesn't count but what I noticed was that when he lost about 4 or 5 hands in a row he would fire out a huge bet and more times than not won this bet. That move along with single unit betting for 2 full days and slowly moving from the $25 table to the $50 table all the way to the $500 tables was what did it, in the end he was betting 2 hands of $5000, it was slow and quite a grind but he did it. This would not have happened if he never bumped that bet after a string of losses or was reduced to playing ABC blackjack like so many people preach.
In closing these are my suggestions for winning at blackjack from a player who has 20 years at this game. I have had multiple 20k scores and even a 50k score and been witness to several 100k + scores. I have also been in and around winning and losing gamblers most of my life.
1. Leave at your window. Every player is going to win when they sit down to play and hit a window of opportunity where you will never have more money in front of you than you do at that very moment. Thats obviously the time to cash out and leave, the hard part is figuring out your window.
2. Stop hitting hands that always bust you. I bust on 12, 15 and 16 more often than not when looking at a 10, I know this goes against the grain but if you always bust with that hand why hit it?
3. You will never make any money playing single unit betting nor progressive betting negative or positive all the time. You have to make well timed larger bets that win and that can come from counting, feel or because you just lost 5 in a row. Typically if I'm playing $25 and I've lost 4 in a row I will throw out $300 on the 5th hand.
4. You have to put in a long session. Very rarely will you make a fortune in an hour, I've gone on some runs like that but most of the time I witnessed a long 2 day grind or a full 10 hours of play.
5. Don't feel like you have to stay at the same table. If your losing than get up and leave, find another table.
6. Don't play with Asian dealers. It's not that the cards come out different with an Asian dealer it's that they are robotic, unfriendly, never talk and rarely smile. That can absolutely get in your head and it just creates an all round negative session. I have never seen anyone win a fortune from an Asian dealer, avoid them like the plague.
7. You don't have to buy in big. I've seen my buddy turn $300 into $10k I don't know how many times and I've done it myself. It's a progression, it takes time and it takes luck which means winning those big bets when you've decided that something has turned favorable be it the count, 5 losses in a row or just plain feel. If you don't win the big bets you aren't going to have a winning session.
8. Don't drink! Sadly my buddy lost that $100k on the 3rd day due to being at a strip club before hand and wanting to entertain, drink and act like the big man and not respect the game, do that and ole mother blackjack will swoop down and take your whole role. He lost because of booze and arrogance.
9. Don't play in the jungle. The jungle is anywhere besides the high limit room or a section of the casino that keeps the higher limit games that offer no mid shoe entry. People jumping in games and playing bad actually doesn't effect your play at all but God damn it's such a pain in the ass and over time can effect you mentally, scout out a good non Asian table with no mid shoe preferably $25 minimum.
10. Take your chips home with you. If you are serious about playing winning blackjack than responsible bankroll must be in your arsenal, I take every chip home with me except my buy in for the day. I keep them neatly racked in my closet and take with me only cash to the casino, my buy in. I also never use my players card at the table when I buy in and never give it to them when I cash out and when I do cash out it's always under $1000. I just prefer to be anonymous as best i can and I can't see how that hurts when trying to take thousands off a casino.
Once again just my thoughts and opinions and this works for me, if you disagree I understand but welcome honest and interesting replies.
2 vs 10 is even more extreme because it is not even a close decision. You will lose FAR more by standing on your 2 vs 10's than hitting. This is along the lines of a no break strategy, which is a huge losing strategy. If that is going to be your strategy, you might as well just mail your check to the casino and not waste your time.
In the case of 2 vs 10, you are compounding this error because of selective memory. (seems like you draw a 10 often). You either don't have a large enough sample size to compare or you are just not thinking clearly.
I am not even going to get into some of the other comments, other than to say there is a lot of voodoo thoughts in there. :/
If you really turned $500 into $25,000, then congratulations. You were very lucky at "gambling". That can happen in the short term. If you want to avoid giving that money back, I would do some studying as to how the game 'really' works.
Quote: kewljAxelWolf gave a good response to your original post. You are using examples of a couple negative expectation hands and then saying that you lose more often than not by hitting. No sh*t! 16 vs 10 is a losing hand. No matter what decision you make, hit or stand, it is a negative expectation (neg EV or losing hand). Making the correct basic strategy play of hitting just means you will lose slightly less over time (the long run). It's a losing hand either way, just one option loses slightly less.
Not only that, but he said he played at Sands, PA. Why in the hell isn't he SURRENDERING 16 vs 10??
He forgot to mention that previously he turned $500 into zero 100 times.
I think there is a quick response from counters and members here to crucify someone who suggests something like I just did that strays from the by the book approach to playing this game. Let me say this, it's fucking gambling, there are intangibles, it's just not sitting down with x amount of money, playing perfect basic strategy and walking away winner because there are no consistent professional blackjack players people. Besides we aren't sitting down to play a million hands, we are gonna play 500 in maybe 6 hours.
If counting cards and playing basic strategy were enough than where are all the millionaires? I'm not promoting a system, they don't work but I am promoting grit. The ability to make well timed very large bets and push that big money out when the time is right and that can come from feel, yes feel. It can come from counting cards or it can come from simply seeing a lot of low cards come out. It will always be gambling no matter how well you can count or play, so please don't try to professionalize it because you know the math inside and out. That's not enough to beat this game and win big money on a weekend Vegas trip which is what 99% of everyone is wanting to do. I think people want to gain a little info, have some fun and try to make as much as they can, my suggestions certainly allow that.
Everyone knows basic strategy and they all try to employ it when playing to the best of their ability, they all know systems don't work and they all know not to press bets. Yet.....for some unknown reason the casino keeps taking everyone's money day after day and I doubt you can tell me the name of a consistent winning millionaire blackjack pro. There aren't any!
Intangibles!
In closing....
I don't hit 12 looking at a 2 or a 3, I surrender 15 and 16, I play big and I am aggressive and play with a lot of grit and I am telling people things I have seen during my time playing. I'm not a pro, I can't count, I don't employ systems or progressive betting but I do have the balls to gamble. I'm positive, select my table, stay away from the booze and the Asians and have deadly good bankroll management and I win and win big. My advice never warranted a thread closure and it's sad that it happened which is my biggest gripe.
You should right a book. Or even teach people how to have grit like you. Good stuff.

Quote: Zcore13Cute story and some of the worst advice I've seen. I didn't see the original thread, but I'm guessing the mixture of ridiculous advice and selective session stories doomed it.

What? you don't believe the part about hitting 12 against 10 getting a 10 and busting 90% of the time.
Pshhh! I know a guy who seen a guy roll 18 yo's in a row.

And once again, I hope it's taken down. If only because it re-quotes the earlier post in it's entirety where the worst of BlackJack advise is spouted.
I think Axel had it right. Nothing more than a finely crafted 'story' contrived to brew up a perfect storm.
Quote: SeanBravoI've been accused of trolling, which I don't even know what that is
Trolling? You? What a ridiculous attack! Shame on those guys!
It seems he has only riled himself up. He's seems pissed off that we are not buying his BS. At this point I'm not sure if he's a troll or just something else. He's not a very good troll because as soon as a mod notices all his foul language I can only imagine he will get suspended.Quote: RussellTrolling is making posts meant to rile up posters.
What took him so long to find this site?
He's offered proof of his $500 to 25k run. Ill take him up on that offer.
Even some proof he's actually playing at the levels he claims would be a start.
For the low cost of about $35 you can buy a hidden HD camera pen and record a session of BJ play and prove your fantastic BJ abilities. I'm sure something can be arranged if he doesn't want the video to go public.
He could take a picture of his mountains of cash with something dated with a hello WOV written on it.
It's rare that anyone legitimately playing at the levels and winning like he's claiming act like he is.
We have seen guy's who actually gamble at higher levels, they usually have pictures or have been verified in some fashion.
Usually guys who are actually out doing this type of play don't act like this guy.
He has no self control on this forum so I can't imagine he has any at the tables.
Oh, Hi Kentry, I didn't realize who I was quoting. I'm still not sure what you are. Whatever it is you are not normal.
I don't see where someone sitting mid-shoe is a factor, unless you've been counting and know that they will get the hands causing the friendly shoe count to be run through that much more quickly. But - the OP says he can't count - so...that makes it vague for me.
The Asian dealer avoidance issue - well, that's ...well, I know what it is. Some are, indeed, fast and impersonal. Small wonder. They know the game, but for some, the English skills are not that good, so they don't talk much. Can't blame 'em. They're just trying to make a buck like everybody else. It's your money, OP. You've got a right to play where you want, go for it. But, that dealer isn't going to impact your money making. The cards come out of the shoe one at a time regardless of who deals. Yeah, I'd have more fun with a flirty blond, myself. But, I'm an old curmudgeon like that.
For the purposes of kicks and grins, I thought I'd try that strategy - upping the bet after 5 successive losses. But, invariably, I suffered a 6th loss 4 times, with a win 3 times. So, yeah, I can see how that might appear to work for you. Just depends on how much you up the bet, I guess. Me, I'll just stick to Video Poker and just play blackjack to stretch my gaming dollar a little further over time - when I'm waiting for free play drawings and stuff.
Quote: AxelWolfOh, Hi Kentry,...you are not normal.
This made me LOL.

I had no idea that my thread would cause such heated and negative criticism. Either way I wrote that before I headed out to Sands Casino in PA where I turned $500 into 25k yesterday and if anyone would like proof I'd be happy to try and give you whatever you need. If anyone knows any pit bosses there or knows of a way I can request info from them on buy in and cash out info please let me know because I'm certain none of you jackasses made 25k last night off a $500 buy in. I stayed in Room 1208, started at $50 minimum, had steak for dinner and than preceded to take them down and can prove it exactly as my original thread suggested. I'm not selling a system and only wanted to share but you all bashed me.

Your thread was closed to keep others from the temptation of being brutally honest with you about how bad your advice is. It wasn't taken down, and you weren't suspended as a troll. That seemed clear yesterday, but here you are again, spamming the board with it.
However, multiple f-bombs and personal insults do get you suspended. 7 days (Martingale for profanity + personal insults). I think there could be a productive conversation in here somewhere, for both you and us, in parsing out what's good and not-good, assuming you want a conversation and aren't just throwing spaghetti on the wall. So I'll leave this thread open for comment.
