Hi there,
At my local casino, the rule regarding surrender is that if I'm going to surrender, I *must* do it before the dealer peeks. After the dealer has peeked, surrender is no longer available. This is kind of a pain in the ass because since the dealers are so used to immediately peeking on 10/A I have to get their attention quickly. But I have learned that if I tell them "look, when I have a hard 15 or 16 I'm probably going to want to surrender" they sometimes remember to give me a chance.
Anyway, my question is: isn't this rule a good rule for the player? Why would they do it this way? Like any other early surrender, I can get out of a dealer blackjack, but why would they make it that I can no longer surrender after they've peeked for blackjack?
Thanks!

The Casino does not want players to see a dealer-tell (facial-tell for eg.) if player acts immediately after dealer has checked for BJ. Also the definition of Early Surrender vs. Late Suurender implies that player has the opportunity to surrender before peek; look up difference of both rules. But I agree that dealers should be doing their jobs correctly and allow enough time and give players opportunity to surrender rather than peeking right away. I think it's really sloppy and lazy on the dealer's part to just assume nobody wants to Early Surrender. You can dispute with manager in the right circumstances against people who are not doing their jobs correctly and who couldn't care less.

Chinaski: “Oh, yeah?”
Wanda: “You hate them?”
Chinaski: “No, but I seem to feel better when they’re not around.”

Unless the dealers are peeking manually ie...not using a peeking device, there Will not be a dealer tell. The dealer will only know that they don't have blackjack.
I have played in casinos with this rule and you also have to surrender before any player acts on their hand.
