I'm not sure what prompted this move by the fine folks at Foxwoods or how many of you this pertains to, but according to a large sign posted in the Rainmaker casino today, they will no longer be allowing Backline betting on BJ or Spanish 21 tables effective this coming Monday, July 12th. I was primarily there to redeem some mailer promos, so I didn't do too much scouting around (like over in MGM to see if this is site-wide or not) but this policy change should take care of one of the more potentially irritating/confrontational aspects of sitting at their 21 tables. I didn't generally mind the practice as long as the player asked first before reaching toward my chips, but this could also skew play at higher counts when you might want to effectively add a hand to benefit from an imbalance of larger cards. Now all they have to do is open a couple more of their tables or pits and we'll see how things go from here :)

Backline Betting is the practice of placing a bet behind another player's bet, with the original player controlling the action. Common at Foxwoods. Especially with older Asian players (in my experience). Also used by Advantage Players to get more money on the felt during positive counts.

Zepp, thanks for the Triple Down promo info. My flier came the day after your post. Unfortunately, I've been called to Austin for work next week. Best of luck.

My guess is they are eliminating Backline betting because it often causes confrontations when the Backline player disagrees with how the original player plays a particular hand (hitting soft 18, 12/2, 12/3, etc.) I've seen some of these disagreements escalate quickly (like the newscaster rumble in Anchorman). Also, it prevents APs from getting extra money out on the table.

Uh, isn't that part of the risk you're taking by backbetting someone?

If they make a stupid play then it's your problem. By betting on someone else's hand and agreeing they get to play it, that's a risk you're taking.

That wasn't an obnoxious backline bettor. It was an obnoxious bettor who asked a player if he could backline.

The joke is here: https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/questions-and-answers/casual-corner/1680-gambling-jokes/#post16672
