If you have a matchplay for blackjack and you are given a hand where you would normally surrender, should you surrender the matchplay or continue the hand and play it out as if surrender was not offered?

For example, 16 vs. 10 with a $10 bet + $10 matchplay

I feel like the answer is pretty obvious, but the only reason I ask is because of the 2 - 1 payoff.

Depends how the casino, and better yet the dealer handle that. A place I play with Surrender frequently has multiple different 'rulings' depending on the dealer. I've had a dealer let me surrender, return the match play, and only take half my "chips" bet. I've had a dealer tell me I can't surrender because they can't break up the match play. I've had a dealer tell me I lose the entire match play and half my "chips" bet... etc.

If you can get away with it, try to surrender to get your match play back and you only lose half your chips bet. This is the best case scenario. If you lose the match play when you try to surrender then it's more worth playing the hand. At that point, if you count, I would play 16v10 how you would for a non surrender game. Hit in a negative count and stand on all positive counts.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

I've had some strange rulings. I have had places treat a MP like it is part of the wager and take just the MP coupon and leave the chips, which seemed like a pretty good deal. I also had a place want to take the full amount of my chips and leave the MP coupon. I decided to play out that hand.

Exactly what KewlJ said.

Blackjack Match Play chips have an Expected Value (barring counting) of a few percent under 50% of the face value. If you can keep the money and forfeit the match play, say it's a $10 MP, then your $10 MP has a value between $4.60-$4.70 and your $10 cash has a value just under $10. Essentially, the casino is letting you surrender and keep 2/3rds of your starting value, from an EV standpoint, making Surrender a better move than usual.

KewlJ is also right about wanting to play out the hand if you lose the chips and keep the MP, it is the exact opposite, so you're only keeping about 1/3rd of your starting value making Surrender a horrible play.
