One project that has been in my project ideas list for several years is a blackjack basic strategy calculator. JB just completed one, which I think looks great. As my faithful guinea pigs, I welcome you to try it out and report any errors or suggestions, before I officially announce it. The link above will take you there.

Thanks in advance for having a look.

Assuming the math is right, it's very cool.

While I TOTALLY realize that these are somewhat standard colors, I didn't know that when I created my own strategy cards. So here's what I use:

Hit - Green
Stand - Red
Split - Yellow, and use / instead of P
Double - Blue
Surrender - Black (although white is fine)

FYI: I didn't do any math. I simply found strategy online, then used colors that I wanted.

This is great because I only have ONE card. I've been intending to update it for a long time....

I get my colors from Playing Blackjack as a Business by Lawrence Revere. It was the first blackjack book I ever read, so I honor it by using its color scheme to this day. Hopefully Lawrence won't mind.

Looks great on this end. Would it be possible to include a house edge calculation along with the BS calculator?

Thanks!

I echo what's been said - if you can include overall house edge and maybe the ability to print it out as a stategy card, that would be great.

I thought of that too. It would make it significantly more complicated to include that. I'll bounce it off of JB, but that information is available separately at my house edge calculator.

Oh, I totally agree that the colors you used are correct. It seems that everywhere I have seen strategy cards for sale, or charts online, those are the colors.

I was just flapping my virtual gums. And suggest it in case JC were inclined to make color choice an option....

The first thing I thought of when I saw your chart was Revere--I dug out my old copy and there were the colors. Brought back memories of learning the game.

OK. I've been playing with it, and have come up with a change that will be HUGE to the user, but simple for the web designer:

Rearrange the page so that the drop-down menus are on the left, with the key below it, and the chart is on the right.

This way, with most screen resolutions, it's all on the screen at once.

I.E. Change a drop-down, and see all the results without scrolling.

I found a bug: With the soft hands, it has just one row for hands of 19+. If a rule set is selected in which soft 19 vs. 6 is a double, the calculator implies that you should also do the same for a soft 20 (or even a soft 21!), which of course is inaccurate.

I found yet another bug (or rather conflicting strategies): On the calculator, for single-deck with DAS not allowed it shows that you shouldn't split 2,2 vs. 3 or 3,3 vs. 4; the Wizard's Basic Strategy page for single-deck shows both as splits.

In single deck, you should only split those hands if you can double after splitting. Maybe the single-deck strategy includes DAS, and the calculator doesn't?

The calculator allows you to choose whether or not you can DAS, and the static charts show both rules with an indicator like "Ph" (meaning that you should split if DAS is allowed and hit if not).
