South Park Blackjack

I, for one, enjoy the subtle humor that South Park has. I mean they have their over-arching stories, but there are always a few things that don't kick in until you've watched every episode a few times. In the episode 707, Red Man's Greed, which is about how a group of Indians want to kill off the town of South Park by giving them SARS... there are a few scenes at a casino. One of which is at the beginning, less than two minutes in, Gerald Broflovski and Randy Marsh are at a BJ table that stands on all 17's and BJ pays 3:1. I'm thinking the player advantage at this table has to be at least 5%...

If anyone watches this episode for the first time you have to watch the roulette scene later on in the episode as well.

I agree, South Park is one of the sharpest (at yet at the same time stupidest) shows on TV.

That blackjack game is funny, but what's even better is the fact that Gerald still manages to lose over $26K on it and is forced to sell his house. I can't begin to imagine how badly he must have been playing...

In spite of the show's absurdity, I'd say that the above scene, the roulette scene and a few others are fairly accurate depictions of how gambling gets a hold on some people, and affects their thoughts & actions.

Family Guy had an episode like that.

A little while later and Lois is hooked on a slot machine. Peter kept trying to get her to leave. No matter what he said, she just replied "yeah..." without even hearing what he was saying.

Accurate? It felt just like me and my wife when I want to go to dinner, and she is bleary-eyed and glued to a machine...

I really don't understand the "addiction" to slot machines that people get. I enjoy slot machines as a diversion, maybe throw $20 in a WoF to blow 20-30 minutes while slowly hitting the button. I just can't help from hearing "90% payback" in my head, continuously, like a mantra. Then the slot machines in Washington are a different story, part of the fun of slots is knowing that it's completely random. The idea that everything is already pre-determined annoys me too much.
