Any board members been to Mohegan Sun recently and can give a report on the table conditions (i.e. minimums, decks, penetration, S17/H17, DAS, DOA, surrender)?

Thank you.

First, the important thing. Mohegan Sun put up all their Christmas decorations on Monday except for the gingerbread house.

Okay, you'll be playing the same rules that you play in the AC high limit pit with a couple of differences. Surrender is offered, you may not split 10s and pair splitting is unlimited except for aces. If you get all 24 eights you can re split them all, except the last one obviously.

Penetration is terrible, 66% to maybe 75% if you are lucky. The average is somewhere in between. The regulars have spent a lot of time finding the very few dealers who give good pen but it is not something you can do on one or even a few trips.

You didn't ask but Foxwoods is a ten to fifteen ride from MS. Their high limit room and MGM's high limit room both have the same rules as MS except for the unlimited pair splitting. Penetration is 80% and often slightly more.

The realistic house edge at both casinos is 0.35% using the Wizard's chart. Do you want directions to Foxwoods? :-)

Great topic and response as I'm planning on spending some time at MS this w/e. Thanks guys! I've been browsing this forum for awhile, but this is my first post.

I noticed that a big Poker tourney is going on this weekend. Any thoughts or previous experience as to how this will affect table games / crowding / etc? Will the poker room be open at all during the weekend for cash games or mini-tourneys? Also, I never play slots, because I always lose and get bored very quickly. However, I think I may put in a token 15 minutes or so just to say I did it. Any suggestions as to which one? Would like to spend around $2-$3/spin.

(I know I could probably call the casino to get this info but thought I would continue the discussion while we are here)

Hello, Cyp. Welcome to the forum.

I'm a confirmed AC'er, but I've enjoyed Mohegan Sun on my occasional trips there (in fact, I'll be there tonight and tomorrow). I call Mohegan the "Borgata North"....not as much for the casino as much as the rooms, clean and comfortable. And their Bac action is better than any AC casino, plenty of tables.

Be careful with the slots there, though. Be sure to compare the pay tables. You'll find they vary greatly, especially within the video poker machines. Choose wisely.

Enjoy your weekend, and good luck.

I have been invited there for a nightclub grand opening through the nightclub PR - not through casino marketing so, it really does not matter if I play a lick this weekend. I will be without a car as they are providing transportation for me.

Poker room? It's open 24/7/365. Yep, even Christmas Day. I've been there.

Thanks Teddy. Good to know its open. I'm also interested to know what affect anyone thinks the Deep Stacks poker tournament ($2500 buy-in) will have on the poker room and even BJ tables. Would you expect a larger crowd than a typical weekend or should it have minimal effect?

There are over 100 blackjack tables alone so you shouldn't have a problem. As always, it depends on how many they open.

I like MS a million times better than Foxwoods. The place is clean, the atmosphere is really great, there are a ton of things to do when you don't want to be at the tables, etc. Incidentally, I was there this weekend as well - that new club is pretty damn awesome. Then again, I'm comparing it to the Boston scene....

Pen is usually not great, as mentioned. But if you "shop" you will find a better dealer without any trouble. I've had plenty of success with 75% pen. I also like that they grandfather you into whatever min bet you started with if the table limits change.

Most importantly, there is minimal risk that you will get any heat if you're betting 15-250 per hand on busy nights -- that was my spread last weekend. The place is crowded (not overcrowded -- just lots of people with a lot going on) and pit critters are doing a million things at a time. I like moving from table to table every 1.5 hours or so.

Some dealers are boring and annoyingly monotonous. The few who play the game with gusto, a smile on their face, and a little bit of conversation here and there make it really worth it.

The different casinos offer different limits. The busiest one is the Casino of the Earth - limits are usually higher there ($25/$1k) than in the Sky ($5/$500 or $10/$1000).

The $50 table in the Casino of the Earth is very nice except they don't allow mid-shoe entry. You can't sit out one hand -- you have to wait till the end (except if you're playing multiple hands -- you can alternate 1/2/3 hands as you wish, as long as you have at least one hand in). Hotter waitresses, hot towel service, bigger drinks.

Oh - and the playing rules:
S17, DAS allowed, unlimited splits except aces (split aces only once), only one card on split aces, double on anything allowed, late surrender allowed, ~70% penetration, BJ pays 3-2. 10s can't be split even if you wanted to.

For those who may not be aware, those $5 minimum tables in the Sky are H17. The minimums never increase and that's the tradeoff. They can be very crowded, smokey and as slow as molasses. If you want to kill time and not risk much it's always an option. My wife plays them with her girlfriends once in a while and always asks for a non smoking sign.
