So I play at a 6 Deck, S17, No RSA, DAS, split up to 3 hands and no surrender. I was looking at the Wizard's appendices, and I saw that you're supposed to stand with a 3+ card 16 as well as a 4+ card soft 18. I was also digging around in the appendices and saw that you only surrender a 15 if it's composed of 10+5 or 9+6 but not on an 8+7. Can anyone tell me the +/- EV or these plays? They're probably negligible, but I'm really interested in why it is so. I'm guessing for the 10+5 and 9+6 that in the hand, you already possess one of the cards that you need to improve your hand, so it makes it a less valuable play.

Yes thats the basic idea of the card removal from your hand. As the game is 6 deck however, the change in EV must be pretty small.

You are right, it's fairly negligible.
I think that the reasons for it are, you're basically card counting those card only. a 3-card 16 vs a 10 is a hit, but the index is 0 (meaning that if the count is 0 or above you should stand). In a 3-card 16 vs a 10, those 4 cards have a count of 0 or above, so, if you're not counting the other cards, standing does slightly better than hitting. If you are counting all the other cards, then stand on 0 or + counts, and hit on - counts.
Even if you're not counting, you could at least look at the cards that the other players have exposed for that hand and make an informed decision accordingly.
