Now I don't want to rain on your parade, but I assume you are aware that some people recommend playing 5 units per hand in order for the Royal Flush bonus to be in effect.
IE:
Always play the maximum coins. I have never seen a machine that didn't offer a bonus on the highest hand for five coins played. If you are uncomfortable playing five coins, then drop down to a lower coinage.

And that is sound advice from the mathematical perspective. But of course you should play however you want, it is your money.
Yes, my 2 credit play was suboptimal. I shouldn't have even been playing $100 denomination given the size of my bankroll. It was a terrible play for multiple reasons. I made it only because I was on TILT.
I had given back nearly all of my hard-won gains from the previous 2 days and was trying to recover. So I started going up in denomination - $5, $10, then $25. After I lost a few hands on $25 x 5 bets, I was overcome with frustration and regret but too stubborn and zoned out to cut my losses. So I bumped it up from $125 to the next highest dollar amount the machine offered - $200.
I fed two $100 bills into the machine. And then...the most I've ever wagered on a single hand, hoping to just hit 2 pair so I could move back down in denomination...I absolutely luck out like I never have before and probably never will again.
I don't want to even try to ever top this hit or reenter the mindset that produced it. I may never play video poker again. This is my moment, a rare one for any gambler, to walk away a lifetime winner on a game and forevermore be able to say, I BEAT THE CASINO!

There are plenty of machines out there that do not give a bonus for playing max coins. I have mostly seen them in smaller markets or small non-casino locations.
There's also ones that scale properly. I think places like Dott'y do, but don't quote me on that.Quote: JohnnyQI have seen a few VP games that have the RF bonus at 10 coins instead of 5.

My gambling binge earned me over 40,000 tier credits in one day, advancing to platinum status. I don't intend to repeat that performance. (Then again, I didn't wake up that day thinking I was going to set a new personal record for coin in and play a $100 denom game.) But I do intend to make the most out of being perceived as a potential 40,000 tc per day player.
I think I have to wait until the end of the month to find out what my new standard offers are. I was already getting free rooms and up to $400 in credits per stay. Of course casino hosts can make better offers anytime at their discretion. The fact that I won three days in a row and was playing mostly video poker might work against me though.
First off, congratulations on the win! I like the humility, honesty and genuine joy you expressed in this post (we need more of all of the above around here).Quote: JackSpadeJohnnyQ, thank you.

My question is (if you wouldn't mind answering): did you tip the attendant (I am assuming so) and what was the amount?
Another question: now that the emotions have (maybe) settled down, do you intend to "stay retired" and never play video poker again or are you tempted to try again for another big win to top this one?
I counted 5k in the fan. Did you remove some bills from the bands they gave you or was that extra money you had?
Photos like that make for great holiday emails to relatives. LOL

I'd rather not open a discussion on tipping here. I refer you to this thread: https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/questions-and-answers/all-other/37606-etiquette-of-tipping-dealers-yet-again/
As for playing video poker again, I would never say never. (And I would never believe a gambler who said never.)
But after finally hitting a satisfying jackpot, I am not motivated to chase another. I would be motivated by advantage play opportunities, free play, loss rebates, accumulating player points, etc. when video poker happens to be the most efficient game available.

Well, I brought about $6k with me and grew my bankroll up to $12k from the previous two days. Then I gave back basically all those gains before I got the $16k hit. So I now have $22k.
No, I didn't remove bills from the bands. There's $20k shown, plus I had another $2k not pictured in small bills and in my wallet.

Please explain this. Why would it be easier to be paid in chips???
Please be specific.
It's fun to have huge piles of cash to show off, I suppose. But I don't particularly like walking around with $22k stuffed in my backpack and don't necessarily trust that hotel safes are secure from employee intrusion.
Yeah. That's the ticket.

Not room safe, hotel or casino safety deposit box. For everything.
Overall, though, trying to grind out an advantage play at $1.25 a spin is a waste of time. And I probably made enough strategy mistakes and mis-clicks to negate most of the 0.76% player advantage on this rare version of the game.
Going thousands of spins, getting dealt 3 deuces at least a dozen times and never hitting the fourth, was frustrating. In theory it should be easier than hitting 4 aces in bonus poker because sometimes you discard an ace whereas a wild deuce should always be held. It makes me appreciate even more how crazy my luck was to hit 4 aces immediately after bumping up my bet to $200.
Next stop: Aria and Bellagio. I plan to avoid playing stakes that risk any major bankroll depletion. Max denom of $5 for video poker - never again $100! I considered quitting video poker entirely, but where else am I going to spend my freeplay - slots or keno? I don't think so.
I plan to focus less on on VP and more on Ultimate Texas Holdem. Almost every time I've played UTH I've spotted advantage opportunities due to sloppy dealers.
I proceeded to tilt-play machines and UTH until 3am, then getting 2 hours of sleep before having to wake up to catch a flight out of Vegas.
I still returned home with a lot more cash than I came with. It was a successful trip overall, but it felt more like a failure since it ended in frustration and tilt.
It could have ended much worse. The UTH table at Aria had a $50 minimum - which means $50 x 2 plus another $200 for a 4x raise. That's a total of $300 per hand. I've experienced rapid $1,000 swings on $25 tables, so I could have quickly lost my $2,000 buy-in. But I ran steady for an hour and cashed out for $2,500 after hitting a full house.

This reminded me, something I noticed years ago, that the double-up feature was on machines and could be turned on or off. But it seemed many casinos kept it off.

The double up feature has been available on IGT machines for as long as I can remember (25 years or so).
