Figured we needed a Big Win thread for us grinders! I've had two big grinder wins in the last couple months: turned $75 into $1000 and $50 into $500, both in UTH. My strategy for both was at first to bet table minimum (for my small local casino it's only $2). When I'd string a couple wins in a row I'd press my bets and also toss $5 on the trips bet (I also had an In Til You Win coupon that would pay an additional $20 if I got a flush or better). I'd snowball to the point where I was betting $10-$15 blinds and manage to get lucky enough to win a string of my 4x bets at that level.

My favorite part would be when a dealer I had earlier in the evening would ask what I hit and be shocked when I said I never hit anything bigger than a full house. Now there's a dealer that likes to say he paid my rent for me. On my way to my $1000 win I told him my goal was to leave when I got a month of rent's worth ($930).

I had a pretty up and down crazy big grinder win yesterday that took pretty much all day to "grind" out. Lately my game has been ultimate texas hold em and I went on an ultimate ride with it. Started the day off being ready for an appointment too early so decided to go to the only casino open at that time. I only had a half hour of free time so I bought in for $500 and started betting aggressively. The dealer who was dealing the game is one that has a tendency to crush me (real nice guy though) and proceeded to tease him about how he was about to crush me again. He insisted he wouldn't and I merely said I was getting the bad karma out of the way (I don't actually believe that but UTH is a purely random game and only relies on proper hand betting to improve the odds so... might as well have fun with superstitions.) Apparently that was the magic word or he was offended or something because he promptly gave me a string of good hands including a flush and a full house let me leave up $400 when I had to go to my appointment.

After the appointment and lunch I went to another casino that opened at noon. I bought in with my $400 winnings. A few hours later I left with $1800 total (including the original $500 I didn't buy in with). If you were to ask them, they'd say I left with so much because I hit a pretty monster 1-2 combo. I was playing 2 hands and trips ended up on the board. With my 2 hands I managed to turn the trips into a full house and quads for a nice $600 win. However that happened pretty early in the session for me and at one point I had given all the winnings back and a chunk of my buy in. The real hero of the day would be full houses and flushes showing up right when I'd press my bets. Also during that run the dealer had a crazy run of terrible hands that would have made plater quit in rage if they were dealt a string that bad.

The third and final session was a textbook case of good things happening from bad decisions. I decided to stop by a 3rd casino in the area in the evening while waiting for a friend to go to the bar with. She ended up deciding she was too tired so I ended jumping into the wildest gambling session I've ever had. Since I was up so much, when I first got there I set big blinds and bet aggressively, and promptly got crushed for it. However after losing about $1000 I swung back to close to what I came in the casino with. That would be the tone for the rest of the night. Over a course of several hours I would swing wildly from being down $1000 or more, to being up a couple hundred (using the $1800 I had earlier). Towards the end of the night there was a point I only had $150 left of the $1800 and the dealer's face had the look that said I was an idiot for staying so long, and he was right. Before he left I was able to recoup a bit of my bank roll to back to $500.

The next dealer eventually convinced me to take a big shot at the trips bet (I had dropped the trips bet when my money was getting dangerously low in order to try and limit the bleeding). So I bet $50 on trips and hit a full house to pay out $400, plus what I had bet on the bottom. That started a crazy run of trips wins where I hit trips 4 straight times (although only betting $15-25 after that initial big bet). I got scorching hot and by the time the disappointed dealer circled back around, he was shocked to see I had fought back to nearly $2000. I remained scorching hot throughout his deal, turning crappy hands into straights and flopping full houses. There was another person playing next to me, and when he left I had rallied back to $3200, getting over $1000 in winnings from the formerly disappointed dealer. Seeing the other guy leave as a sign (it was also absurdly late) I decided to not repeat my mistake yet again and finally leave while ahead.

All in all, I turned $500 into about $3400 and if you were to include dealer tips and drinks and such, my total would likely be about $4000 (Some dealer bets hit big hands and I tipped the dealers who contributed to the big upswings quite well).
