With the Grand National having rolled around last weekend, I decided to splash out on a few horses with a total bet of £22. I lost. However I had a bit of spare change. I made a few sports bets and ground out a little win, then got bored. I started playing around on the site, playing some of the slots winning little bits here and there, and losing it back.

Then of all things I hit the bingo. I won £41.32. This was money back and some profit, so I cashed it out. I then noticed an offer for £25 free play on the "Live" casino games. The T&C's said I needed to play through £200 before I could cash out any part of the bonus. I started playing £5 per hand on baccarat (banker), getting up around £5 after 15 mins and was bored again. Played BJ at £5 a hand, losing £25 after £20 mins. Only thing left was roulette. Betting the same numbers in Zero Section, I managed to turn my remaining £30ish into £150.

This may not be a big win in terms of pure cash for some people, but it turned into a big win for me for one reason.

We would have had to cancel our plans for a nice meal at a restaurant my wife wanted to visit as today our car needed some repairs. Total cost including parts and labour £146.73. Budget for meal at restaurant and drinks: £150.

I call that a big win.

Very Fine.

The point here is that being a big winner doesn't mean going for and nailing L 10,000.

It means winning 150-300, - enough to take care of the car and wife, - curteousy of the casino for an evening spent.

Croupier, as a fellow dealer, I'm certain you've seen countless times people getting greedy, and turning a 2,000 profit into leaving the casino with empty pockets.

I've seen it so many times yet I sometimes fail that lesson myself. Unless my wife is with me! "She reminds me" are the words of a love song.

But Croupier - you did it solo!

A modest win is sometimes a bigger win than a much larger number, in terms of what it can do just for now and today.

Few gamblers can see this, because their "here and now" is the flash of cards or the spin of a wheel - until they chase it all back and leave broke. You didn't.

I've gotten to the point where the winning of money does nothing for me.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
My favorite game is baccarat, betting the minimum every couple hands when the mood strikes me. Or nickel video poker with max bet. I am definitely not cut out to be a "real" gambler -- I never press my bets, for instance.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I think this site has helped me understand that you can never come out a winner in the long run. (Don't reply with advantage plays; I know they exist). So why not just bet the minimum and have fun?
------------------------------------------------------------------
As of right now, I bet more than the minimum just to get a certain level of comps and attention. But if I had to start all over I would bet strictly the minimum.
