Many of the Gurus will tell you different, but notice they now make their money by selling you a bill of goods on how you can make money with their "System".
You can minimize your losses but in the long run you are going to lose.
It is the fallacy of every hard core gambler, to find a way to "Beat the House".
As Bob Stupak once said, the only way to win in this town is to open a casino. And that he did. That and a motorcycle accident eventually led him to ruin, But he had one hell of a run. His biography is fascinating.
So to all you charlatans I say; To hell with you!
I'll save you a place.

You ever play Stupak's board game? I'd
like to find one of them.
Quote: BenJamminUnless you are an expert card counter or a cheat, you can't win. At least over the long haul.

I hear there's good money to be made selling systems, but that may classify you as a cheat.
Finally a roulette game you can actually beat.Quote: EvenBobYou ever play Stupak's board game? I'd

Much as I want to agree with that statement, there's one exception I can think of.
If you look long and hard enough, you just might find a VP machine with a > 100% payout.
(And is vulturing considered "cheating"?)

When playing a negative expectation game, the probability you will have a negative bank roll increases over time. There are no absolutes.
The 'long run' or that time to 99% of players are losers is longer in some games than others. Much longer than some people expect.

Okay so you wander around prospecting until you find this machine and then you hog it all day and night slurping free drinks as you make what? 0.19 percent on the coin in? Or is that an "expectation" that can take months to materialize?

Even if it's 0.001%, that's still an exception to the original claim that "in the long run you are going to lose".
And yes, I realize that the OP was referring to claims that (insert the name of a system here) won't lose. (Actually, if you have infinite bankroll and infinite time, Martingale and D'Alembert should win in the long run - of course, this requires that not only you be immortal, but the sun itself as well, and something tells me that neither one of these is true...)

One need not look very long or very hard. You can look at the FSE light show and when it's over be playing one in seconds. With all the free booze you can take down your gullet to boot.

And that's the reason casinos work. People
go on winning streaks and get the false
impression they can do this for a long time.
If everybody lost at exactly the house edge
every time, casinos would close in a month.
The illusion of winning keeps them going back.
They also want to believe the illusion, and
that's a big part of it.
Quote: richbailey86Because the house always wins. Play long enough, you never change the stakes, the house takes you. Unless, when that perfect hand comes along, you bet big, and then you take the house

Ahhh yes - I was told it was Pitt's idea as he figured his character Rusty was always on the go and would have to eat at sometime
(Hmmmmm…although, is he eating while he is teaching poker to the young hollywood crew?)
