You've stayed at Colorado Belle?

No, but I hung out there for several hours. IBYA is referring to the fact that I used to manage a dump hotel.

Gotcha!! To bad you don't manage a hotel in the Vegas area. I'd hit you up for a friends discount LOL!!

Interestingly enough, if I still managed the hotel I could've gotten you such a discount at the Downtown Grand as that is a Choice Hotels Ascend Collection property and my hotel was under the Choice flag.

It's flat rate, though, so the value of the discount really depends on where you're booking. I stayed at DG for the purpose of reviewing it and ultimately cancelled my Choice EMPLOYEE Rate in favor of a cheaper package deal that the property was offering to anyone. That's not just because of Vegas, either. The flat rate set up on Friends and Family as well as Employee discounts saves a TON on high demand areas and high demand seasons, but can cost you MORE money in a low demand area + season if you just blindly book at that rate.

The Wyndham properties may not have the, "Best," rates for employees, but they have one that is always useful. They just do 40% off of any Wyndham hotel anytime, that actually applies to both F&F and Employee rates. Having access to both was kind of nice, you were always able to get something really cheap.

That makes sense. I'm always looking to score a deal and if that is possible at a higher end property it's win win. Unfortunately most of the "deals" I seem to find end up carrying unexpected expenses.

I just checked the Colorado Belle's room rate for tonight because I was looking for a Tesla supercharger in the area for my friend, which the Belle has. (He's really not going to visit.)

It's $18.40 +$7.50 resort fee & tax!

Speaking of Laughlin, I just walked by a few 25ish year olds and heard one ask “where’s Laughlin?”
The other replies “I don’t know. Somewhere in the desert. Like by the river maybe.”

Remarkably accurate for someone who doesn’t know where Laughlin is, and at that age would have no reason to.

I understand its largely a Geritol Set hangout and even then its for Geritol Low Rollers. Perhaps it has older style slot machines though? It used to be great that there was "no strip" but now there is "no nothing".

And still might be overpriced. The last time I was there the flies all around the outside on the river side were horrible. Thousands. I can only imagine how many get into the back doors and other openenings.

I've been there many times, too many times to count. I even rented a small place in Bullhead for about six months so we didn't have to travel back and forth so often(that single Lane road was treacherous) and we could bring our animals with us. I've never noticed there being a problem with bugs inside the buildings. Certain times of the year the bugs outside are much worse than other times, it never really bothered me. The scorching heat in the summer along with that dirty pavement smell waffling up wasn't too pleasant. I can only describe the smell as burning spit. Don't ask me how I know what burning spit smells like.

They did a decent job on their updated Tower at the Edgewater.

Rode my bike all along the Riverwalk in Laughlin.
Started at the Riverside since its right across the street from where I am living
Its a beautiful pathway
Kind of skinny for a bike but I never saw any no bike signs
Got the the Colorado Belle
Kind of sucks the walkway ends there
No biggie, on a bike, rode around the front and got back on the trail in front of the Pioneer.
Took the trail as far as it would go and ended up o a dirt trail past the Golden Nugget and went no further
Nice trail. Only one set of steps I had to navigate at the Pioneer.
They should make the trail wider and have more businesses serving the people.
Its nice but could be made into a great attraction with the right vision

If you try to dine outside along the river walk the bugs out there are just beyond brutal, it’s pretty much not doable in normal times you’d be asking to come back inside. You really just have to keep moving to enjoy and avoid it there the swarms there which is probably why there’s not more out there.

I did notice one small swarm that kind of sucked as I rode through it.
Almost seemed like the swarm tried to follow me.
I guess due to time of year, swarms not bad.
Yea, I could see the riverwalk not being as enjoyable if its swarm city when it gets warmer.

You also have to watch out for skunks along the river there.

I thought skunks were a forest thing, not a desert thing

When I lived in the family housing area of the post at White Sands Missile Range, we would have skunks show up in our back yard at night. I had erected a small wire fence as a dog pen, and our dog got sprayed a couple of times when she barked at critters who came too close to "her" territory. We had grass in that housing area, because we watered it, but there were essentially no trees, certainly nothing like a forest, and we lived only a few hundred yards from the desert.

For years, there was a solitary skunk that lived under the Edgewater. He'd take a stroll around dusk and was a bit of an attraction. At some point he must have found a mate because there are now a dozen or so. On the other end of town, there were a few raccoons that also would emerge at dusk around the beach at Harrahs. They also seem to have multiplied

What kind of bugs?

Caddisflies. And regular black flies. Sort of like a cross between a large black fly and a moth. Google is your friend. All sorts of reviews about bugs on the riverwalk. One comparing it to a Stephen King book. Enjoy a medium article titled “Bullhead City was a retiree paradise. Then came a biblical plague of flies.”

The caddisflies are worst in Spring and Fall. It can be so bad in Laughlin you would not want to be outside. They don't bite or sting but are so thick they get in your hair, eyes, nose and ears. You can't open your mouth either. They are only near the water so if you are 100 yards from the river no problem.
50-50-90 Rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there is a 90% probability you'll get it wrong

They live along the river in that area. The Riverside had had signs up by their riverwalk area and there was a skunk hanging out at the pool in Laughlin last time I was at Harrah's.

We get this stiped skunk in the yard here in Havasu. https://www.azgfd.com/hunting/species/predator/skunks/

I've seen racoons at the Avi.
