Ponta Delgada, capital of Sao Miguel island (largest of the 9 Azores islands).

casino is in a hotel near the pier and is not open till 4pm.
i will only have 15min to explore before i have to run back to the ship.
5min was spent on players card. you cant get in w/o it.
sign up promos only for residents, not tourists. :(
2 old e-Roulette tables.
2 regular roulette tables. (not open)
2 blackjack tables: pays 3:2, dont know if stand on s17 since wording is in Portuguese, no idea # of decks. (not open)
vp sucks.
you can bet up to 20 coins and a royal at max bet pays 16k units. didnt check if a Royal is proportional if you bet smaller amounts.
@0.20 euro denom, i saw 8/5/4 db and 7/5 JoB. didnt check the rest.
1/2 the slots are modernish. the other 1/2 are typical multi-game no name machines.
cash in but there's no ticket out. everything is handpay. (ANNOYING!)
when you cash out, the machine locks up.
you flag down a slot attendant and s/he will come back with cash.
theres a poker room with 2 poker tables (not open).

Sounds as if your experience in Ponta Delgada was quite similar to mine. I posted my recollections in the Casino Chip of the Day thread almost a year ago after our cruise ship stopped in this port. Did you make it up to King's View (described in a bogus chip-of-the-day post about Monte Palace shortly before the one linked)?

I posted some info about it last year, intending for it to be entertaining. Perhaps I failed.

3yrs later and they still can't ticket out:

Still a Handpay no matter what cash out amount (ie: $5.20). :(
Annoying...
And WTF JoB?!

1st time i've seen 2pair pay 1 on JoB!
Didn't know you can set the game like that for JoB :o
Edit:
Just noticed it's 10/7 JoB?!?!
Wiz VP calculator says 93% return at max bet (20 coins)

SF and Straight also overpay, while 4OAK is normal and 2P is shorted. It's almost like they took the paytable from a different game and shoved it onto JoB.

Hopefully the mailers are exceptionally good.
Maybe there's a double zero roulette to play instead?
May the cards fall in your favor.

Have to be careful about Bonus Poker two-pair shortpays on the Strip as well. Sometimes bartops pay better than the ones on the main floor.

I've seen a JoB pay table on a joker poker game in Germany. However, it didn't take much data collection to show the game was gaffed.
