"Air Canada will launch summer service between Toronto and Atlantic City International Airport, giving the resort direct access to the Canadian market for lucrative international tourists. The new air service will be partly underwritten by a pledge of $705,000 in yearly subsidies from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, the state agency that oversees Atlantic City tourism and development projects...Air Canada will start by flying four days per week from Toronto between Memorial Day and Labor Day, but may add flights from Montreal if demand proves strong"

The Toronto TV anchormen will have a tough job to report the bad news first, then the good news next.
First, here is the bad news:
An AC homeless lady butchered our 2 Toronto residents to death near Bally's casino in Atlantic City. Click the link and read the details.

Next, here is the good news:
The Atlantic City Casino Authority will pay Air Canada in the amount of $705,000 to fly our residents to AC... To fly or not to fly to AC, it's all up to you. Click the link and read the details.

Give you and idea how expensive AIR CANADA is I just did a search Toronto to Philly and back July 2- 6 $840 or so
same exact dates but using DELTA guess how much it was? less than half price at $412 but its not direct its via New York
Quote: coilmanWell hope they have the $2.1 million handy to pay AIR CANADA when they can not fill the planes

100-120 degree desert vs oceanfront/ bayfront rooms?
This is the 1 time of year AC has a chance to compete.
Quote: AxelWolfNo one is flying to "AC" for 2X the price of Vegas.
add in the extra cost of rooms in AC during the summer and well its really expensive

I am a very frequent flyer, in my experience, Airline tickets are based simply on supply & demand, if the planes are fairly empty you'll be able to fly Toronto>AC for <$100 1way , if the planes are near full, you'll pay a few hundred or more if you covet a unique oceanfront gambling destination in summer.
Not saying AC can ever compete w/ Vegas, but some of us beach creatures possess a different mindset in summer- not for eveyone-if you're one of us - you may pay more to be on the ocean-
I live near the ocean & our local junket flt co suspends flts to Vegas in summer because it's the only few mos. a year we'd rather be here vs Vegas
Don't forget the cost from the airport to the casinos.Quote: coilmanadd in the extra cost of rooms in AC during the summer and well its really expensive
Also im pro AC. I hate people dogging on it. I haven't experienced the crime ridden experience people talk about. Anytime a casino in the USA fails it stings me.
Gambling should be americas pass time.

tell me how many times you have flown out of CANADA on a Canadian Airline? $100 might cover the taxes and fees not the ticket

It's why I try to fly out of Seattle when I can....

agreed...I think the idea is to pull in some Canadian players with means, capable of paying the frieght or qualified at CET casinos like Windsor- to dump $ in AC casinos- I don't think it was intended to lure the avg "Jean" -Eh?

I have flown Air Canada - ridiculous fees -but don't you have to add that ridiculous cost to any ticket- incl Vegas?
(I wont set foot in the UK since they charge you like $400 taxes and fees to leave!)

The ones that are traveling to gamble are heading to LAS VEGAS ... beaches are all around the Toronto area ... to the north of there is cottage country. VERY few are heading to the beach of Atlantic City unless they own a property there.
Not many travel to Windsor either with the FALLS less than half the travel time away

OK, OK
I'm done defending the virtues of AC & A REAL OCEAN in summer- won't take this any further.
I fear for INTheKnowBob's health (i.e. dying of laughter), if I got kicked off a board I started -so we'd be able to be critical of AC -as a result of defending AC
Uncle.
It's been tried before and failed miserably. What makes this any different. Same stupid failures over and over again. Someone's making money on these "subsidizes"g

The French Canadian tourism contributes about 13% to Cape Mays counties tourism.
I don't doubt that they can attract some of these tourists with reasonable airfare. I just wonder how many will rent a car and continue on down the Parkway to the Wildwoods. For the most part these are families and we all know how much more family friendly many other shore towns are then A.C.
Has anyone seen any French Canadians in A.C? I don't believe I have.
On the plus side maybe I can get cheap airfare to Quebec, always wanted to visit.

Bob "I'll take over for $300" cmon down
Chicago year round flts were mistake shoved down throats of United by NJ to continue United monopoly out of Newark
I hesitate to put forth the idea, based upon extensive experience in the Caribbean & elsewhere, that there is a vast difference between the fun loving nature of the gentleman(woman?) poster from Toronto, we engaged with on this thread, vs.potential French Canadian interests in our unholy "Atlantic City".
coilman? dissent -or agree?

I was gonna take a look at fares.
Although I am a corporate travel agent based in the USA.
I do have Canadian clients I book and ticket in Canada.
Yes I have been trained on the myriad of canadian taxes.
Anyway.
Flights not loaded into the system yet so I have no idea of cost :-(

Official deal is still pending final approval.
They plan to fly a 74 passenger turbo prop- vs the former failed larger aircraft service "The smaller turboprop plane is a better aircraft for a start-up route instead of using a large jet, as WestJet did between Atlantic City and Toronto, Mullins added."

Context for color. Here's an Orbitz search for those dates from YYZ to PHL:
Note: Any flight to Philly for the 4th of July weekend will be somewhat inflated - Liberty Bell and Independence Hall and all that:-)
