In a late update...
March casino revenue in Macau is expected to plunge 80% over last year. (No surprise here.)
Over 50% of casino workers are afraid of losing their jobs. (While the big resorts can afford to weather the storm, employees at smaller casinos are understandably worried.)
The President of Sands China says this "has proven the most difficult period in the gaming industry in a decade". (He has a gift for understatement. Does anyone recall Macau closing every casino a decade ago ... or ever?)
Workers at the casinos with limited operations are complaining that there aren't enough masks for employees and patrons, that chips are not being disinfected and that table games are not spaced far enough apart. (It seems to me that the simplest way to comply with the spacing rule would be to only open every other table in an operating pit.)
Meanwhile, COVID-19 is apparently leaving China and beginning a world tour. Unfortunately it has become a politicised issue so I'll refrain from any discussion outside of Macau.

The current situation in Macau is that players are indeed slowly coming back (from Mainland China), but it is no fun having to go through hoops of proving that you are Covid negative, showing your ID, mandatory wearing of a face mask, disinfecting your hands, etc.
Macau locals currently have the luxury of a rich government that gives plenty handouts to all, casinos that do not dare to squeeze staff financially, as the concessionary renewal is nearby, uninterrupted food imports, a much cleaner air, schools fully open, etc. In fact life is very normal here with the exception of no tourists and no freedom to travel outside China (on return one must do 14 days quarantine).
What fascinates me even more is that Macau casino shares (in fact all shares) pretend there is no problem. The only casino share (but not a Macau one) that does openly struggle is Genting Hong Kong (Star Cruises and Resorts World Manila).

Quote: AyecarumbaIf this particular virus was developed in a lab and escaped, what are the odds we would have positive proof in the next five years?
IDK. But I heard that a scientist today is tracing the origin of the Spaish Flu. That was how many years ago.
