Thread Rating:
large casino with modern slots, and a few table games.
2) Obobanda (?) casino, a few feet before you cross the Queen's bridge
old, rundown.
machines also old. they still return coins instead of a ticket! 1/3 of the machines were not working.
3) San Marcos casino, a couple of blocks after you cross the Queen's bridge
cross between #2 and #3
4) Paradise casino in Sunscape hotel, by Mumbo Beach
casino is small but spacious.
lots of older games with many Must Hits. a few table games.
Must use insert card to play. Costs $2 but they give it back to you when you give them back the card.
Games in local currency are marked. else assume it takes USD.
only 1 vp type: JoB but it's located in multi-slot type machines.
pennies, thus $1 max bet
wiz calc says 94.x% return
"2) Obobanda (?) casino..."
That's "Otrobanda": it means "the other side", since it's across the bridge from the main city.
I've been to that casino, but it's been a number of years.

Yes, deciphering the spelling can be tricky, particularly when they are using an elaborate font on the side of the building. I am fairly confident that it is neither "Obobanda" nor "Otrobanda" but instead "Otrabanda".
While I have to admit that the photo of the building as posted by 100xOdds makes the script letter look like an "o", the chip from the casino is clear that it is an "a". I do think DogHand got the translation correct. Maybe the spelling is just an issue of what language one chooses to use.
This chip and some discussion are available in the Casino Chip of the Day thread. In that thread, I have also covered the San Marco (not "San Marcos") and the Carnaval (not "Carnival"). The correct spelling of that latter casino name can be seen in the photo that 100xOdds posted of the casino entrance sign.
Yes, spelling can be tricky. If you are interested in seeing those additional chips and my discussions about visiting Curaçao, you might begin with the index of the CCotD thread, starting in the first post there. Just scroll down until you get to the Caribbean Islands section. I do not have a chip from the Paradise casino in Curaçao.

Heh, my 1st email to the wiz was like in 1999/2000.
And he replied!
And I've been gambling ever since.
Hmm.. Don't know how my life would be different if he never replied.
1) it looks like the Otrabanda casino is closed.Quote: DogHand100xOdds,

i was approaching it and a security guard patrolling the area said it was closed.
it was Tues at noon.
2) the casino over the Queen's bridge has 1/3 the slots in US Dollars and the other 2/3 in local currency (Florin).
and they dont covert money to/from the Florin.
bad business decision since they're losing ALOT of $ from tourist, unless it's a law thing.
when you enter, you see signs about not converting currency.
all the slots in the front are in Florin. the slots in the back are in US $ but unlike me, most tourists will probably just turn around before reaching the back section.
and i didnt see anything notifying potential customers that slots in the back are in US $.
at minimum, i would have put all the US $ slots in the front and the Florin slots behind them. <Shrug>
3) Paradise casino at Renaissance hotel is undergoing renovations.
only 1/4 of the slots are up and running. rest are turned off and/or piled up in a corner.
blackjack and roulette tables are still up.
All the slots are in US $.

I wonder if paybacks are set different between the two?

Finally put out of it's misery.
(Pic looks fine on my computer but when uploaded to WoV, it's sideways???)
2) All slots in the Queen's Bridge casino are now in Florin
3) Paradise casino is now owned by Windcreek.
Slots are still all USD
Has 2 floors.
All slots are in Florin.
You can exchange USD to Fl and you have to tell the cashier to put your $ aside because you want exchange it back to USD when you are done.
They will not exchange any profit to USD because they usually dont have USD. (I assume tourists staying at the Renaissance hotel would usually play at the Paradise casino next to it than travel to this locals casino.)
