That is what the "ignore" feature is for. If you are afraid to engage it is there. Honestly, though, calling a person racist and homophobic is usually a cop-out. Like the kid who takes his ball and goes home. It also makes this kind of person weak intellectually as they never engage with people other than with which they totally agree.

Calling a racist a racist or a homophobe a homophobe is legit.

If you are going to call them that you need to back it up.
Generally people who call people either do do because they cannot counter with an intellectual or intelligent statement.

One should never speak an untruth, and should always seek to speak truths, including when labeling someone.

Why would you think I meant someone on this board? I have two people on ignore here- EB and Gordon-and don't have any reason to believe either is a homophobe or a racist. I said that if a person is a racist and or homophobic, that I didn't care what kind of degree he might have, I don't bother with them. I don't know how or why that is controversial..
If I found out my Doctor was a racist, I'd switch Doctors. If my dry cleaner showed nazi tendencies, I'd find a new dry cleaner. If my accountant expressed homophobic views, I'd find a new one. I'm intolerant like that.

Isn't labeling another the beginning of racism? Stamp some guy with a great big N rather than considering that he is an individual with many characteristics, beyond that arbitrary assembly of superficial ones we call race?
But these words are now subjective to the point of being meaningless. I've been called a racist because of who I vote for, what I am wearing, music I listen to and whatever other common, individual behaviors.
I've been called a racist for taking a hit and ruining the flow of the cards! Haven't we all?
But I agree with the premise that these words are used primarily to dismiss fact and avoid intellectual inquiry. Who needs to acknowledge and correct their failures, when they can just dismiss the person identifying them as a racist?

I got called a racist for firing a guy for no call no show on his job. Had to have the cops eject him from our office.
Many of the above posts are long and truncated. In order to go through and read them, one must scroll almost endlessly back and forth to figure out who are the authors of their message.
I suggest that when answering or replying or rebutting that the last to do so sign their reply.

Just calling someone something is not good enough. You have to punch them in the face when you do it and do it often enough that they get the idea. Preferably when they can’t respond equally, for one reason or another.
It can be another negative effect, but that’s the idea. And when it is done to a whole group, everyone will get the idea how it works.
It can take awhile for initial bad reaction to wear off. Groups can harbor long term animosity. “Like I’m still mad, you messed with my father” or similar.
