Are the odds different for a 8 ball "X" vs an 8 ball "T"? Or, are all the same based on the number of balls needed.

The odds are the same. In both cases, you have to get eight specific numbers. The letters on them are irrelevant. This also applies to, say, the eight numbers surrounding the free space.
