I need help with a math problem with my coworker.

We currently play cornhole at lunch every day, and we keep stats to establish a handicap for the worse player. After tracking the stats for awhile, we realized we weren’t really sure how to calculate.

Rules:
First to 11 wins, must win by 2, all bags must be thrown so scores can go higher than 11

Player 1. Wins: 106
Player 2. Wins: 30
Player 1. Avg score per win game: 6.2
Player 2. Avg score per win game: 5.4
Player 1: Avg score per game 11.9
Player 2: avg score per game 8.3

Thus were concluding the handicap for player 2 should be 3.5 points.

Are thinking about this correctly?

So when you say all bags are thrown, that means each of you throws an equal number of bags, even if the one going first makes 11 or more?

If that's correct, then what is the overall score possible? How many bags per turn?

How many turns do you get; do you have to stop if you're both so bad you don't get 11 in a certain number of turns, or is it to 11 no matter how many turns you take?

I think it would be possible to say the less-winning player gets 3.5 and keep it simple, but that's relative to you. In golf, handicap is figured relative to a course, and par is generally determined by yardage, not by how you compare to the best player on that course. Which is why I ask.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

I would treat it like bowling. Take 80% of the difference.

11.9 - 8.3 = 3.6 80% = 2.88. Round it up to 3.
Expect the worst and you will never be disappointed. I AM NOT PART OF GWAE RADIO SHOW

Possible score is infinite due to the “must win by 2 rule”

Points earned from:
Bag on board = 1
Bag handing over hole = 2
In the hole = 3
“MJ swish” = 4

No limit on turns . Game can end in 1-2 turns or 20+
