Your friend is wearing a hat. What is the best way to determine its color?
Look at the hat.

At least he didn't spell color with that annoying superfluous u.
Speaking of which, I think superfluous also has a superfluous u.

Then for you, the answer is:
Ask somebody else what color the hat is! :)

Since perception is relative, you could answer with what you see and be correct. Alternately, the second best strategy is to ask your friend what color her hat is. This strategy would also work if you were totally blind, or if you are in Canada and your friend is in Argentina. You could call her, and ask about the hat.
