Dear Wizard.
Here is a game played in African casinos.
It's called 7 card stud poker.
Player plays the ante and receives 2 face down cards. Dealer receives 2 face down cards.
Dealer then flops 3 face up cards.
Player either passes (loses ante)
Or makes a back bet (double the ante)
Dealer then flops 2 further face up cards.
Payouts for player hands:
Pair, 2 pair, 3 of kind or Straight: 1 x ante
Flush: 2 x ante
Full house: 3 x ante
4 of kind: 10 x ante
Straight flush: 20 x ante
Royal flush: 50 x ante
If dealer qualifies with pair of 4's or better then the back bet is also paid evens.
Bonus bet: up to half the ante bet.
This bonus hand consists of the players first 2 cards and the 3 card flop.
Pair, 2 pair, 3 of kind or straight: 7 to 1
Flush: 10 to 1
Full House: 15 to 1
4 of kind: 20 to 1
Straight flush: 25 to 1
Royal flush: 25 to 1
Please can you calculate the house edge for the game & for the bonus?
Regards,
ChrisSA

Hello Stephen,
I trust you are well.
I wonder if you can help with the following:
In the casino I frequent there is a 5 card poker game similar to the 7 card poker game discussed previously.
The player receives 5 cards and the dealer also receives 5 cards one of which is displayed face up.
After the player has made a back bet there is an option for the player to replace one of his cards for the price of his ante bet. This money is taken by the dealer and a new card is given.
I have two questions:
1. What would you estimate the reduction in the house edge to be when a player exercises this option?
2. There are 5 boxes on the table and all players cards are dealt face up.
What would you estimate the reduction in the house edge to be?

Hi again,
To clarify my previous post.
I mean the reduction in the normal house edge whereby there is no option to replace a card and the cards are dealt face down.
