Hi--
I'm new to the site, and a beginner at VP. Hoping someone could answer an odds question for me.
I was putting some hands into the hand analyzer for double double bonus, default pay table.
My starting hand is 5c5h8s9sTs
The combination of cards to keep here is a pretty obvious one: keep the single pair. But what caught my eye is what is listed below that (not directly, but below): keeping the T with the 55. The thing that popped into my mind is, maybe it's easier to hit a boat if you're holding on to one of the kickers already as opposed to trying to draw a third five in addition to another pair. In other words, it'd be easier to draw a 5 and a T as opposed to only keeping the 55, and then drawing 533, or 5JJ, etc. (is that correct?) But then what didn't make sense to me then was that I saw that holding on to 558 and 559, while even to each other, has a lower expected return than does 55T. If that above theory about drawing to the boat is correct, then why doesn't 558 and 559 have the same exact return as 55T?

Edit: Axel and I are in accord [I think] .52634 * 5 unit bet = 2.63182 ER

holding 55 kicker is the 3rd best hold above RE-DRAW and lower hands only and all should be the same can you post the ER for the 5 5 10 VS the other 2?
I get ER at 2.63 but i'm not sure if you fraction it out more.

Thanks guys for the replies. I must be doing something wrong. I'm doing the DDB, with the default payout structure, which starts with jacks or better = 1. And I'm getting ER for 55T at 0.539624 and 558 and 559 both being at 0.440179

Ohhh, OK. Thank you. But can I ask an annoying question? What is it about that game that makes the difference there in those odds? Why is 55T a higher ER?

In quick quads, TTT55 is considered a "quick quad" and is worth 250 or 260 in DDB depending on the paytable because the sum of the trip's kickers equal it's rank (i.e. 5+5 = 10). With the other two holds, a "quick quad" is impossible for that hand.

In that game the two 5's add up to ten so TTT55 is the same as a four of a kind tens.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.
