Hello all

I am trying to calculate the house edge for three card poker so I can have better understanding of how to go about doing it. Obviously it does depend on the pay table and since I'm from the UK using pay table 2 on the Wizard of odds three card poker page.

https://wizardofodds.com/games/three-card-poker/

Anyway, I've fallen at the first hurdle because of this:

Straight flush 48 0.002172
Three of a kind 52 0.002353
Straight 720 0.032579
Flush 1096 0.049593
Pair 3744 0.169412
Ace High or Less 16440 0.743891

Total 22100 hands House edge 2.7%

My reasoning is that if I were to play 22100 hands with £1 on the pair plus, and assuming it's a perfect world and I get every single possible combination of hands I would lose 2.7% of the £22100 I had wagered.

Instead I find this:

Straight flush 48 x35 =1680
Three of a kind 52 x33 =1716
Straight 720 x6 =4320
Flush 1096 x4 =4384
Pair 3744 x1 =3744
Ace High or Less 16440 n/a

Total = 15844

This results in me retaining only 71.69% of what I wagered implying a much higher house edge. I would have expected to retain £21503.3 given the 2.7% edge.

Any help would be much appreciated, I'm finding it frustrating that obviously there is something here I clearly don't understand.

Kind regards

you forgot to include your original bet in your calculation. You keep it if you win the hand.
winning streaks come and go, losing streak never ends.

You are a legend!!!

It was really bothering me, thank-you so much. All sorted now.

Really do love this website but have never needed to post anything.

Thanks
