I think the Fremont Street Experience shuts down around midnight, but how's the noise level from the rest of the street? Do bands still perform past 12 am? How about just the noise made by pedestrians? Many reviews of Downtown hotels mention which rooms face away from Fremont and some warn about noise. I'm a rather light sleeper and don't want to either take a long time getting to sleep or, worse, being awoken in the middle of the night and then taking a long time getting to sleep.
On the other hand MSS is well away from Fremont Street, but it's a longer walk from there to anywhere. Though the bridge to the California looks safe enough :)
The noise issue aside, I would still go with the MSS. I like the decor of the place, there is a tranquility about the place, and the food is good.

Noted.
Quote:I should have mentioned in my Golden Gate review that there was a band playing right outside the hotel until about 2 A.M., and the noise easily carried into my room.
Those details tend to be very useful. Of course, I'm sure there are many other details you noticed. Some wnet into the review and others didn't. You can't add everything.

Noise is one consideration. But the major one is price.
I've noticed when the weather is cooler, the noise level is way down, i.e. Noise level is directly proportional to the Temperature.

The plan is for the first half of May. It may change to teh second half, or even the first half of June.

Too bad :)

Change? That'll affect the WOV CON II planning, won't it?

Yes, but it would affect it if I don't show up, too. Or it would affect me.
And that's WovCon ][ BTW ;)
I don't think you could do wrong at Four Queens or Fitzgerald's if you ask for one of the back towers. I prefer the Fitz casino to the Four Queens. It is a lot less chaotic and crowded. You could also try the California which would have NO noise issues whatsoever.
Note that most downtown rooms have AC units that can be pretty noisy when they fire up. They will cycle on and off all night depending on how you set them. It can get pretty aggravating when the temperature is too hot to go without it.
Quote: AyecarumbaThere are lower level rooms at MSS that face the railroad tracks.
We still have to do the coin on the train track experiment. There is was a thread in the early days of the forum about whether a train running over a penny would fling it forward or backwards.

Thanks. I was going to bring that up, too.
Doe the train just roll through, or does it also blow a whistle? Long ago I lived a couple of blocks from a railroad track. It wasn't used much, but then the trains passed through, they blew a very loud whislte. I recall being awoken a time or too

Thank you, but I usually sleep with the AC off. Vegas in May is warm, no question, but to me it's not that hot. I'll sleep well enough running the AC for an hour or two before bed time, then I turn it off.

I remember that. If I could be of any help, there's a line 'round here that's still quite busy (train every 30-40 min). My boy doesn't let me go in the car without a mandatory stop to watch it, so it wouldn't be nothing to hop out and place a penny.
My only question would be how to tell? If it landed forward of it's placement, how could I tell it didn't pop up and get hit forward, or just blown forward? (train rips at like 45-50mph) I don't reckon I could visually see the moment of impact and determine what happens...

Easy. Take along a camera and tape the whole thing. If necessary, place several pennies (just make sure none of them are worht thousands of dollars first).

Wife took it =/ Which ever way I do it would have to be without electronic assistance.
I'll have more than one shot. Like I said, trains come often and my boy makes sure I see at least a few a week. Pennies are numerous and all the steel ones are safely tucked away in the attic ;) If anyone has a non digital suggestion, I'm all ears...
