My March Break trip for 2023 is March 12-16th this year. Hotel prices are nuts. My offers from both the Wynn and Treasure Island have blackout dates such that I'm paying full price for a room. I'm hoping one of them relents and gives me an offer I can use, but at this point it's not looking good.

I hit all the usual places/websites to check hotel rooms and everything looks booked up. A lot of the off-strip places like Red Rock or downtown like Four Queens are $200+ per night on the 13th and 14th.

What's going on in Las Vegas that's causing this?

The NASCAR race is March 5th.
PAC 10 running out of T-Mobile finishes on March 12th.
NCAA March Madness starts the 16th and I'm flying out that day

I did some searching and found that there is a construction Expo going on called ConExpo-ConAgg March 14-18. It says they're expecting 135,000 attendees. Is this what's going on? Is 135,000 a large convention in Las Vegas?

I recently got three nights for five rooms at two of the top Strip resorts over a weekend for friends and family. The rooms averaged over $1000. a night each because of conventions going on. So that was something like $18000. in comps applied, not including food and beverage and show tickets which were comp'ed too. This well over twenty grand did not include our own suite that weekend, or our own food and beverage, which that weekend our suite was pushing five grand a night.

When something is going on in Vegas, especially lately, standard room rates go over a thousand a night at the top resorts.

There were weeks when we were trying to get our usual suites at some of the resorts, and every single suite in the hotel was booked by convention goers - obviously not the average convention goer, but the owners and executives of the convention going companies.

It hasn't been as big a problem in the past as in 2023. Sometimes a decent offer doesn't appear until January or so, but they always seem to come around in years prior.

I've booked VDARA as a backup directly through the MGM website and that's running me $200 per night plus $45 resort fees and a $14 per day self-parking charge. Ugh! The booking is cancellable so I'll cross my fingers.

The offer I got from Treasure Island is running about $375 per night and Wynn/Encore does run over $1000 on that Tuesday and Wednesday.

What's strange is the Treasure Island website has a buy one get one offer that ends up cheaper than what Casino Marketing can offer me.

Yes, that's large by LV standards and is definitely a factor in the hotel availability. About 3 months ago I tried to book March Madness weekend and Thurs - Sat, 3/16, 3/17 and 3/18 were black out dates at Bellagio.

The best the Wynn can do for me at the moment is through a Wynn Pre-pay stay and save for 30% off:

March 12: $369
March 13: $805
March 14: $1098
March 15: $1098

That bump on 14th-15th must be the big convention.

and for reference the NCAA tournament dates:

March 16: $805
March 17: $805
March 18: $659

I would stop there anytime I went to Laughlin with the wife. The last time I was there they still had sneak-a-peak video poker. I have not seen it anywhere else in probably 15 years.

Henderson (GVR) and Summerlin (Red Rock) are fine. Any farther than that from the Strip, if your need is to be close to the Strip - nah.

I just looked at GVR for the March 12-16 period and they are similar to everywhere else $200+ per night with a resort fee on top of that. Final bill for a "Deluxe King - Anytime rate" is $1502.52. Red Rock runs $1970.72.

Another option would be getting a weekly Apt. on or near the strip($350 ish for the week) renting a car, using uber, or god-forbid the bus.

The Tuscany, which is normally around $55. a night (years ago as little as $20. a night), is $266. / night March 12 - 16th, so that right there tells you that if you may get a decent Strip room around $350., grab it.

I assume the Rio or Palms will probably be the least expensive nice casino resorts near the Strip for that stay, probably under $150. a night if you book soon.

Oh, come on... I have stayed at those places a number of times thought my year's of being in Vegas. I have had many friends and family who used those places. My cousin lived in one with his younger daughter and wife for 2 year's. No one ever had a problem.

I'm willing to make a side bet and video document a 2 week stay where I carry 5 k in my pocket at all timms . Exit my apt at least 20 time's and make 2 random friends who i invite overt to my place. Let me know if anyone wants to make a side bet worth my time.

If you're not engaged in shenanigans you shouldn't have a problem. I doubt a hooker will end up with my watch in her pus.

This is perhaps the best example I've seen lately at a Freudian Slip. While the accepted spelling is "puss" as in "-in-boots", this one reveals a darker side to the sex-work trade.

If you have nothing, and you look like you have nothing, you are probably safe to walk through North East Vegas or the Naked City after midnight, or any prison yard at any time in a third world country.

But if you show up in a luxury car, dressed well, with lots of luggage, you would probably make a target of yourself staying in some low end weekly rent apartment, especially if you stayed too long.

The catch is that the reservation is non-refundable, and there is no possibility of backend comps. The above is from biddinghelper (dot) com.
