Is Sisolak still calling all the shots in Vegas?

Is Sisolak still calling all the shots in Vegas?
Yes, Sisolak makes the calls. He usually updates every two weeks.
Governor Sisolak no longer decides. He relinquished these powers to each individual County.
The NGC Board said it would follow the Clark County Commission.

I expect the mask mandate to be continued. Since July 30, when the mandate was reinstated…I really haven’t seen any discernible or correlating decrease in cases.
I believe 5 of the 17 Nevada counties were not deemed as elevated…therefore no mask mandate. I could be wrong.

I don’t think it has. If you look at the chart going as far back as March 2020…with a mask mandate, the chart reads like a roller coaster. Peaks and valleys. Ups and downs. Some leveling off, peaking and dropping again.
The pro mask people will likely argue whatever the numbers are…they would have been higher without masks. I really don’t buy in to that type of argument as pro mask can never be wrong.
I think we are averaging about 1,000 cases per day since the 2nd mandate.
The positivity rate also has issues now. Many businesses including the biggie MGM now require testing regardless of how you feel. So, tests will go up and positivity rate will go down. People will cheer the positivity rate has gone down. It really means nothing.
Quote: mcallister3200In casinos it’s a faux mask mandate anyways with the having a cigarette pack or drink laying around you exemption. Enough to annoy people, not enough to accomplish much. I’m not arguing for or against anything it’s just an obvious observation. Those really riled up about needing it for the most part probably weren’t going to casinos in the first place and don’t know it’s a joke.
The entire “mask in casino” charade is a joke. If the science says you wear it to protect others, wonderful. The fact that they not only allow smokers, vapers and cigar aficionados to remove their mask but also to blow respiratory particles thruout the casino, told me their “science” is a joke…especially here in Vegas.
Maybe masks work, maybe not so much. I really don’t know. When they continued to allow mask removal to smoke, they told me it was never about science.
Those in control won’t speak of the issue either. They know they’ll sound like idiots trying to justify or excuse it.
At least NJ acknowledged it and banned it during the emergency crisis.
So, anecdotally speaking, masks work - but, I assume, work best if everyone around you is also wearing a mask.
Another advantage to the mask mandate is that smoking is prohibited in the high limit pits of Venetian and Palazzo. I believe this prohibition was not lifted at all since reopening June 2020.
When I am at a public table, I generally have a No Smoking sign erected, but sometimes I forget to do that.
Also, if I am at a public table, I have them raise the minimum to try to keep people away, but still high rollers appear on occasion who are not deterred by the minimums.
Occasionally I forget to erect the No Smoking sign at a public table, and someone shows up who smokes, which is not edifying. I sometimes then ask the person to please not smoke, and mention that I was about to ask the pit boss to make the table No Smoking, with varying results - no one has ever refused to not smoke , but some simply stand up and smoke right behind the table.
Coronavirus or no coronavirus, second hand smoke in casinos is definitely a solid health related reason to avoid casinos entirely.

Quote: mcallister3200Everywhere in Nevada requires masks indoors at the moment. With these exception of if vaccination is required as a condition of entry then masks are not legally required (like you will see at the Raiders game.)

It has to be an event in excess of 4,000 to be exempt from the mask mandate. All vaccinated.

My understanding is every Nevada county is now under a mask mandate as per the “elevated count” guidelines. I think he overruled any local ordinance.

My personal opinion is no. The mask mandate was originally introduced in June of 2020, suspended in May of 2021 and reintroduced on August 1, 2021.
The covid count has been a roller coaster of up and down and up and down since March 2020. I see no discernible pattern that says mask work or mitigate covid.
Many will argue the count would be higher without a mask mandate, regardless. Since that is impossible to calculate and is simply a prediction…I don’t give it credence.

How can anyone know what the transmission rate would be without a mask mandate? It might have been much higher, or it might have stayed the same. I've yet to hear a rational argument that it would be less without a mask mandate.
are only 10-15% effective. The virus can go right through the cloth and most masks are not fitted
right to begin with. Most notably around the nose.
I'd say masks are at most marginally effective.

Some might argue if it saves just one life…it’s worth it.
I don’t really buy into that idea. It’s an encumbrance. For me, it’s a pain in the ass. It itches my face, irritates my ears, fogs up my glasses and muffles conversation.
Others don’t mind the encumbrance. Effectiveness is an unknown, IMO. At least here.
