Simple question: how often do you forget to cash slot tickets when you visit a casino?
I always either use them at some game or cash them. For very small tickets, like one for $0.01, I may sometimes keep them as souvenirs.

Most of the time when I forget one, it's either because I took a break to go eat or something, and simply forgot I already had one. The other reason, is sometimes I play without a player card. And whether the casino can track or not, if I am significantly ahead on the same stake, but am going to start playing with my card. I usually like to start fresh. So I stick it in my wallet, and sometimes take them home by accident.

I have a system where I cash out once I'm up a certain amount, pocket the ticket, and then put new cash in. For example, if i start with $20 in a VP machine, once I hit $30, I cash out & pocket it, then put in another $20 from my wallet. This doesn't protect me from losing the second $20, but I find it does help offset my losses overall.

I do something along those lines, except I don't set goals. I do insert back an amount equal to the original buy in. I think we have the same idea: to protect the money won. You still may lose the buy-in, but you keep the winnings.
