Hi
I'm a researcher on problem gambling. I need some information on the relative size of the market segment for online gambling of sports, poker, and slot games etc.. I have found one reference that said that betting was 47% of the market, but other than that I've not found any information on it. If anyone can direct me to a source of information (that accessible without huge costs) I would appreciate it.

Since most poker rooms are closed at the casinos due to the pandemic, I assume there's 4 states that have a monopoly on poker via online intrastate poker playing.

In the US, there is a very significant difference between states. On-line poker is not widely available but is available in NJ and Canada. Sports betting is becoming available in more and more states each month (Tennessee just started it 2 months ago) so the amount wagered is changing with time.

You may want to be more specific about which regions you are studying. The Asian market is much bigger than the US and will have very different distribution of wagers.

Gambling market global

Searching on those keywords returned links to promising sources, some of them offering reports for a price. It’s not that hard to find information. In just the ledes for the first ten links estimates of ~$50-500 billion were given. Good luck.

Thanks, yes I did that... the price was $4000 for the report... (another report said, starting at 4000) trying to find something cheaper (or free).. In the past I've seen this information displayed at conferences (e.g., international conference on gambling and risk taking), but need more recent information.

I think I've found the information I was looking for in two previews to two specific detailed commercial resources (both priced at $4000), one web site said that betting accounted for 47% of the global online gaming revenue and another site gave estimated predictions for 2027 for total gaming and poker as well as year over year growth rates both both from which I was able to calculate back (using a little bit of algebra) that currently poker accounts for about 35% of the online gaming market. These numbers are consistent with stuff I've heard at conferences from year ago. Thanks to all who offered suggestions. Those Jersey gaming numbers are fascinating.

Dr. Turner, I'm surprised you found so little information.

I just used 2 different search engines to retrieve information on "online gambling worldwide." Each returned several juicy-looking sites in the first page, and I expect most do not charge for the basic data they collect.
