I've been playing this lately and treating it the same as surrender but wondered if this was optimal play?
The cashback on a 16 vs 10 or A dealer upcard is significantly less than 50%, from memory it's around 36% so not sure if this is ever worth taking?
The advantage over surrender rules being you have access to take the cashback after hitting.

For 16 v T or A, the EV will typically be between -0.53 and -0.556 (from a fresh 6-deck shoe.) The difference is whether your 16 is a T-6 or a 4-2-5-5.

So, if your cashback is indeed a return of 36%, that is an EV of -0.64, which should always be worse than hitting/standing on your 16.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I guess it's always more -EV to take the cashback rather than hit or stand then. I checked the cashback figures offered against some hands, I don't think i'll be using the cashback option.

hard 15 vs 10 = 0.45
hard 16 vs 9 = 0.48
hard 16 vs 10 = 0.42
hard 16 vs A = 0.33

soft 16 v A = 0.56
soft 17 v A 0.55
soft 18 v A 0.61

Is this single deck or multi (6-8) decks?
