Need some advice. My friend has been playing the War side bet when he plays blackjack and swears by it. He usually loses a small amount playing when he plays strictly blacljack but the last 8 times he has won over $100 each time by playing and parlaying the war bet. Is this just a fluke. I played the war side bet last night and also won. The Wizard said that if you play the War game parlay strategy on his web site you will be at a 1.16% disadvange and he suggested that even though the odds are good for this side bet you are much better off playing straight blackjack with no side bet. Has anyone had experience with this game. I generally hate side bets but I have seen a number of people with my own eyes do very well with the War side bet/parlay. Any thoughts or advice Would be appreciated! Thx.

That would depend if they are dealing it correctly. If they are dealing Aces are low and ties go to the house, it has just been luck. Any deviation from that by any dealer you come across will change the odds, possibly in your favor.

There is, to some degree, a blackjack purism here at this site; when I play BJ, the main game itself is the draw and focus.

The HE of this site bit is 3.7%.
To comission is 50% if your first card is same as the dealer.
For a 6 deck BJ, to get a pair is 13.5%, so 50%/13.5% is 3.7 %
Worse than basic blackjack .

Your house edge is incorrect. Here is the Wizard's analysis of the game. War Blackjack Wizard of Odds Page

Sorry, we are talking about different side bet.
The game here in Manila is very simple : you win if your first card is higher than the dealer . Ace is high.
If you tie with dealer's. You lose 1/2 the bet. That's it. No parley etc.
The wizard's page is so clear, why ask any more question?

That's nor how it was implemented in the US. So some misunderstandings in this thread stem from that.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.
