I'm going to be making a quick trip to Vegas coming up in the next few weeks and was thinking about putting up front money rather than carrying cash, but I wanted to make sure I understand it right.
I really have two questions:
1. If I don't gamble with the full amount that I front I can withdraw the balance when I leave.
2. Do they run a credit check as part of the process? I was a victim of identity theft some time ago and am still trying to sort that all out.
Thanks

You can withdraw everything.
Credit check when setting up markers.
Not sure but I think only valid id is necessary for front money.

Thanks! I wasn't sure about the credit check part, because on the wire form they sent it asks for a SSN but I'm guessing thats for IRS purposes

Remember if you win you can always pay off the marker before you leave, or even if you lose you can write a check so you don't forget to pay it off when you get home.

Are you talking about taking a line of credit from the casino, or of depositing your money at the casino?
I don't know much about either subject, save what I've read in this board, but they are different things. Teddys has posted quite extensively on this subject, too. You could do worse than searching around the forum. try a search for "cashier's check," which is a term I recall often got mentioned in such threads.

At any time. As chips, as cash with a bit of delay, as a check handed or sent to you.
>2. Do they run a credit check as part of the process?
Not usually since YOU are the one extending credit to the casino. They don't set aside chips for you and keep them in some sort of humidor for your next trip. Its just an accounting entry that you can draw on my signing at any table or cage window. Meanwhile you are a general creditor of the casino but the gaming commission isn't worried so there is no need for you to be worried.
Oh,,, if you do later decide to have a check sent to you, it will often have some neutral sounding commercial name rather than a casino sounding name on the check.

front money you take to the casino and then put on deposit in your account, like a bank.
There are 2 problems with front money.
1.) You need to carry a large sum with you. This can be mitigated with cashier/bank checks, etc.
2.) If you were to die in the casino, your wife cannot take the money out. They only allow one signature on the front money. Eventually the money would come back to your wife, or estate, but it would take time.
A credit line you open with the casino ahead of time. You take no cash with you. To get a credit line, the casino wants to look at your bank account to make sure you have plenty of funds in there not just right now, but as a general rule you have a healthy balance at all times. They want to ensure if you do not pay, they can go in and TAKE their money. They don't mind letting you play on their money in the casino, but they want to be sure you can pay back any amount you ask for, if you lose.

Always borrow money from a pessimist; They don't expect to get paid back !
Be yourself and speak your thoughts. Those who matter won't mind, and those that mind, don't matter!
